A big thank you to all of you. We really do not know which way to turn at the moment we are so stressed and as DH is an only child it all falls on us. I know they are his parents and you do what you can but it would be great to have a sibbling to share the responsibility if you know what i mean.

Im dreading our parents getting like this, dh's nan is cared for by his mum at the moment and its a full-time job !

My dad is in the same situation, last winter my nan left the gas on in the house and when it snowed was sat there in the dark with no heating or anything on, her neighbours called the Police and they came out to see her, opened the windows and turned the gas off etc. My dad is an only child too so he and my mom have to look after her on their own, she refuses to admit that there is anything wrong with her and the GP won't support my parents in helping to diagnose her with a proper illness. It's a sad situation to get into and it's very hard when you are left to deal with it all alone.

Hi, I don't mean to butt in, but your dad should contact whoever supplies your gran's gas. They can fit , free of charge, special disablers to gas appliances for elderly or people who are have Alzheimers etc., so that they cannot turn on the supply themselves, but the appliance can still be used by anyone else.. I only know exact info about British Gas, but I believe all companies do it. If she's with BGas the no. is 0845 955 5414 and it's called the Home Energy Care something or other. Hope this helps.

It.s getting worse i have just spoken to FIL's family in Blackpool to let them know how he is and they have given us some dreadfull news DH cousin was involved in a road accident on wednesday he was pulled under the wheels of a lorry in Leeds they have had to amputate his arm and are now fighting to save his leg. They say things come in 3's so hopefully this will be it

Thanks Karen we are feeling really fragile at the moment especially seeing Dave's dad going through this detox i didn't realise how bad getting him dry was going to be he doesn't even know us at the moment and MIL is drowning in her own self pity ( she has always been like this ) I have had to remove all the string and hubbys shoe laces from him LOl If i didn't have a laugh about it i would cry.
