It is ok to go alone.. no matter what anyone says

When I was doing the DCP the people I made friends with always were working when I was off so 90% of the time I went into the parks solo for six months. It was fantastic! I never felt uncomfortable and I did what I wanted when I wanted. Never beholding to someone else. It was great. I was always texting my gf (who was back home) so I never was to lonely. Going solo is great!
This is exactly how I got started traveling alone! I was on the DCP in 1991 and would go to the parks by myself with no more thought than going to the local mall. Later on I tried to get people to go on vacation with but it was such a hassle to coordinate and one trip to Vegas pretty much ruined a friendship - she wanted to go to clubs, me not-so-much.

I do think the iphone or ipad make it somewhat easier. You can play a game or update your Facebook while in line or read a book while waiting for your dinner. But I like to absorb the atmosphere at a lot of Disney restaurants so I like to get a table off to the side or in the corner where I can watch the whole room. I have yet to do a character meal, but it is more of a shyness thing than anything. And some trips I am into characters, others I don't do any.

Thanks for this post! I've just come back from my first visit to WDW in 30 years! (1st as an adult) I took my 8 year old nephew and we had a sensational time. I am 100%, all in, ready for more Disney trips! Thought it would be fun to do some of the things that kids don't like to linger over so I'm planning a solo venture for October! Glad to know it's not out of the ordinary!!
