I don't know if I missed something or not but are the rebates for the child tax credit still coming or did Congress put a hold on it.? ?

If you go to the IRS website you can plug in your information and they will tell you exactly how much your getting and when your check is being mailed.

:bounce: Yeah! Looks like ours will be mailed on Friday. Hope it will be here by the 31st. Would love to have it for vacation.

I must have done something wrong, when I went here, it just said when the check would be mailed "IF" we qualified.

Anyone have a link for the page that tells you exactly how much it is??

I may be mistaken but I think that only works if youre close to the date that they wouldbe sending out your check?

Im reading on another board and that seems to be the case.

My friend should be getting her in the first round and she was able to acess her onformation but were in the last bunch and it wasnt available for us.

HTH

If it tells you "IF you qualify"..then you did something wrong...I put in the wrong exemptions at first until I checked and it told me that. I entered the correct exemptions and now it gives me my exact amount and when it is being mailed. Double check the information you put in.

How much are we suppose to get? Is it per kid or per house hold?

It is $400 per child if you received the $600 child tax credit on your 2002 return. It is a pre-payment of the child tax credit on your 2003 return. The credit went up to $1000 and instead of making you wait until April to receive it, they are giving you the difference now. You will only receive $600 again on your return in 2003 though since this is a pre-payment not a rebate. You will get your full $1000 per child on your return in 2004.

Mo's that didnt work for me at all. I changed my excemptions and it didnt chnage the message. Im looking at the tax forms now so I know I put in the right info.

I think it has to do with when youre scheduled to receive it. I *think* lol like I said I could be wrong. :)

Yeah, I assumed it was the mistake I had made because I got the same message at first but on an email list I subscribe to someone just said...

"I just called a friend who works for the IRS branch office here in my town. She said your refund amount will not be available until on the screen everyone is looking at until the checks have "dropped for distribution". She said the info should be there 7 to 10 days before the credit date"

So there you go! ;)

Thanks for posting the information. I'm off to check the website and see if we are getting anything!

Well, I just checked, and since my youngest will turn 17 this year, we don't qualify for the child tax rebate. Is there any other rebate we might qualify for? I thought I read somewhere that even married couples without children would get some sort of a rebate.

Any info appreciated!;)

I used the link posted here and, I was given an 8/8 date but, from previous threads, I know that date is early for mailing. I think we were to be expecting a mailing at the end of August. It goes by the last 2 digits of the Main SSN of your taxes, when you filed.

My Mom, almost 59yo, when she heard of this, wanted to know when her $1,200 would be coming! ;) :p

Yeah right, Mom!

:)

Not a rebate, per se, but pretty much all taxpayers should currently be seeing an increase in take home pay as of July 1st -- the new, lower tax rates went into effect then so your paychecks should be higher now than they were in the beginning of the year, due to less taxes being withheld.

Thanks for link and I was doing the wrong number of exemptions. The first time I tried I received the "if you qualify". I had the wrong number of exemptions in. Then I typed in the right number and it gave me the exact amount and the date the check was mailed.

Well I guess our DD, who turned 17 in February of this year (2003), does NOT qualify for the advance payment.

But, I'm assuming, she will be able to be claimed for the full $1000 on our 2003 Tax Return, right?

Nope you won't be able to claim the $1000 cause she is turning 17 in 2003.

I had a son that turned 17 in the end of October. You cannot claim them if they turn 17 during the tax year. It stinks, cause most 17 year olds are clearly dependents yet. I know some 17 year olds graduate when they are 17, but they usually are turning 18 in the summer and go to college or the work force.

This is why they want everyone's SS# and they do check it, you cannot try to claim it, they watch that one very close

To get this rebate, do you have to fill out something or will they automatically send a check to you?
