With all that has been going on in the world of Disney, I've been sitting back and letting the chips fall. As I have come to find, one can't always trust what one reads on the internet.

One of the sources I find to be reliable is over at Jim Hill Media.
I got my cup of coffee, and clicked on today's discussion, and read down about halfway...

What I read (and if it is true-it will come out) then the chips really will fall where they will.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall at the 30 mile away retreat.

***"Oh, to be a fly on the wall at the 30 mile away retreat."***

I'm sorry, must have a brain cramp this morning. Which JH article are you refering to about a retreat ?

The article that starts off about the Disney Treasures DVDs says near the end:

But -- if these are the sorts of moves that Mike's going to make -- maybe it's good that he and a team of his trusted executives reportedly quietly slipped away from Disney headquarters in Burbank yesterday afternoon. To meet in secret some 30 miles away from the lot. With the hope that whatever it was that they were talking about wouldn't leak back to Walt's nephew and Stanley Gold.

The Pharaohs used to try to erase all reference to those who ruled Egypt before them. They would send workers to chisel out or change the names on monuments and temples of anyone who displeased them. Of course Pharaohs could do this because they had ABSOLUTE POWER and they thought of themselves as GODS. Hmmmmm........

I also read Jim's article from 12/11/03 and in not surprised that eisner would be so petty as to stop the release of a new batch of dvd's just so he can cut Roy Disney out from the dvd's!!!!
Its shows his pettiness has no boundaries!!!!!!!
Now how long till eisner try's to remove references of Walt from the company?????????????

anything Jim Hill or for that matter any of us think or say. It hasn't to this point. As far as Wall Street is concerned if the $$$'s keep coming Mike looks good. In fact Wall Street thinks Roy and Stan's leaving is a good thing as it solidifies Mikes control and reduces contention.

As far as Ei$ner removing all traces of Roy Disney or for that matter any contributions Walt himself made it looks like to me it's been under way for quite a while.

I'm afraid we like the Disney company and it's founders far more than he ever did or does. I don't see a bright future for the company.

I thought it was strange when the Treasures were delayed. I know Nemo and Pirates are in big demand, but its not like that was a shock to anyone. And it didn't make sense that they had to be delayed 5 months.

(I had dismissed the idea that the demand for the Treasures was too much to handle... its a limited edition... they know how many they are going to make... no way that causes a 5 month delay)

The only think I could think of was that they wanted to "save" those sales for later, since Nemo and Pirates were going to do so well in the current quarter. That would make the reasons given untrue of course, but a relatively minor transgression, given everything else going on.

Interesting to see if Jim's info turns out to be correct. Should take the wind out of the sails of those who say Eisner is merely trying to run a business and Roy is making things personal. (should, but won't)

That retreat is intersting as well, IF true. At least Eisner is concerned enough to feel he needs to do something to ensure his ongoing reign.

I agree with Matt's theory regarding the timing of the release. I do believe Jim Hill's comments concerning the packaging are probably true but they aren't the reason for the delay. There isn't a need to launch this right now given the magnitude of the three other campaigns going on.

As much interest as we all have in this story, the truth is: the general public doesn't render it any credence. There is no talk around town here and from what I've heard, there's little talk around tinseltown. It just isn't gaining any outside support or interest. It is viewed as an internal power struggle - nothing more.

If the retreat did occur, my guess is everything was on the table. That includes an exit strategy as well as a damage assessment and response initiatives. It also includes future planning objectives and organizational restructuring.

I'm sure the discussion was intense.

We'll never know just how candid it was.

I agree that the story is hardly the talk of the town among the general public, but its not exactly dead either. The NY Times did just have an article on it a couple of days ago.

But it doesn't really have to be big with the general public for anything to actually happen. Even an actual change in Disney's leadership wouldn't be that big a story. Yeah, there'd be some articles and discussion for a few days, but within a week, it'd be back to just us Disney dweebs.

As many have said, many Disney customers don't even know who Disney's CEO is, let alone care if he leaves or not.

It's the investors that have to be swayed.

I do agree that based on what we know for sure, there isn't enough for that to happen.

The only question is whether there is anything we don't know that will make a difference.

How do you know it wasn't Roy who wanted his voice removed? Based on how he left, and what he's said since then, it wouldn't surprise me if he called Eisner and said, "Oh ... and you know my voice? The one that you're using for free? I'd like it removed from the upcoming DVD release." Because that would cost Eisner's folks time, money and revenue and lend credence to Roy's stated desire to totally break from anything Eisner has a hand in. Just a thought.

:earsboy:

If thats the case of history editing by Eisner-pharoah then my 2nd edition of "Fantasia" with Roys commentary should be a collectors item!

I say lets start a class action lawsuit that Eisner is censoring creative content of historic masterpieces that include any reference to the Disney family name most notably Roy. i though it was extremely well done and if there is any future copies coming out without Roy then thats the last straw.

wdwsearcher So where have you found any reporting or credence for your rumor???
Rou doesnt have a history of being petty while eisners is well nkown!!!!!

Calm down, Bob. You're getting so agitated that you can't spell properly. I never said it was a rumor. I just offered it as a possibility. A musing, if you will. Something that I would have done if I were Roy. I mean ... we all KNOW that EVERYTHING Jim Hill writes and posts is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH, but still ...

:earsboy:

Based on what Disney insiders have repeatedly been telling me, Michael Eisner is reportedly taking this whole Roy and Stanley situation 'way too personal. Which is why Disney's CEO is supposedly doing whatever he can to undermine and undercut these guys.

This is Eisner's weakness.

Negotiation 101

Put your emotions in check and get the other person as emotional as possible. He will then start to make mistakes. He's getting emotional.

wdsearcher Its not that im agitated, its just that i sometimes dont proofread like i should and dont have the best typing skills!!!
This is way too much fun to be agitating!!!
As for JH, most things he writes do tend to be true in the long run as he does seem to have good contacts.

Leonard Maltin seems like a genuine, sincere guy but I'm not buying the "tin" story. My thinking is that the sales for the Treasures editions would be fairly consistent with past Treasures releases. This would give the company a pretty decent guess as to the number of tins required and how long it would take to produce that number of tins. Knowing those two factors in the equation, why would they ever have announced a release date if the production run could not be completed in time? Also, excuse me, but due to the "unexpectedly" high demand of Nemo and POTC DVD's, the tin boxes for the Treasures are delayed???????

I would suggest that it would be in your best favor to read Mr. Maltin's biography. He has a lot of ground upon which to stand. You sir, have none. We will file your opinion with the rest of the people that write on bathroom walls until you prove your worth.

Whoa...Sonic. Back off a bit.

I hardly think Micca was tearing into Leonard Maltin. He brings up some valid points and since when should someone be shot down for sharing their opinion?? If that were the case, it wouldn't be much of a posting board.

I am pretty familiar with Leonard Maltin and his knowledge of all things Disney is definitely well beyond any of us (or at least me!), but, I tend to agree with Micca on this as well.
