Our community is very small and the class that my almost 22 yr. old DS graduated with was and still is extremely close. Anyway one of his buddies started college with him and transferred a couple of times he just couldn't find his place. Finally he'd went back to where he started but then dropped out. His parents didn't know for awhile but alot of us other folks did. He's an only child and a good guy it's just college wasn't working out for him. Meanwhile his mom starts having health problems that the doctors couldn't figure out. Parents finally discover he's not in school and by this time he's enlisted in the Navy. He goes through basic and his training and we finally have a name to put with his mothers illness. She has ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). They didn't let him know while he was in training. They just told him about 2 wks ago. When I told my son it just broke his heart. This bunch is very close. His group had several sets of parents. When there was a shooting at my son's campus one of the moms called me to see how my son was doing she said she had to check on all her kids at UCA. That 's just how everyone was. I've been do depressed lately and after talking to this young mans dad (with a promise to go visit his wife) I thought at least we're not dealing with something like this. On a happier note the parents don't think he'll be in until late January and he's suppose to be home today!!!
