Is this kind of what you're looking for?

Wow, the Fuji F30 really blows the others away! If I want a P&S I think I know where to go (except for no viewfinder, what a shame).

Thanks for posting! My DH and I are looking for a new digital camera. We have the Kodak V570, and it takes great pictures, but not at night. Sounds like the Fuji might be the way to go!!!

A lot of that sounds like what we've been saying here for months. ;)

Seriously, though, the side-by-side shots show just now much of an improvement the Fujis are compared to any other PnS, including competitors with a 1/1.8" sensor, like the G7, though it certainly hurts that it's got 10mp vs the 6mp of the Fuji samples. Still, it certainly reinforces my current opinion that I'll take the bigger Fuji sensor without IS over a competitor's 1/2.5" sensor in a long-zoom with IS.

As always with DPReview, though, some confusing choices were made there by the author - why different cameras (except the two "control" cameras) for ISO 800 and ISO 1600? :confused3 Their sensor size graph is a little dated as few cameras have 1/2.7" sensors any more, and there's no illustration of the 1/1.7" sensor of the Fuji. Those are fairly small nits since those are pretty close to the ones illustrated, but we've got to keep them honest. :)

I'd actually be curious to see some noise crops at ISO 400 or maybe even 200. There's still noise to be had in most PnSs at ISO 400 and often at 200, too.

The Fuji S6000 has a viewfinder and the same sensor... viewfinders seem to be going the way of the dodo on pocket PnSs thanks to ever-growing LCD screens and ever-shrinking external dimensions. My wife's SD600 (2.5" LCD) has a viewfinder while my mother's SD630 (3" LCD) doesn't (they're otherwise identical), but the one on my wife's is so small as to be basically useless, anyway. I think I got spoiled by the EVFs on my long-zoom PnSs.

I saw that same article several days ago and think I posted a link, but don't remember for sure. My first reaction, upon seeing the actual sizes of the sensors was, "How in the world do those PnS cameras take as good pictures as they do?".

I was at MGM last week and took a lot of photos. When I got home and looked at my photos, I realized I had the ISO set at 1600 for most of the pics. The pictures look terrible compared to the rest of the pics from my trip.

Is there anything I can do in Photoshop to improve the quality?

Try Noise Ninja, I believe there is a free download

I agree with above. After noise removal, they might need some sharpening.

I second Noise Ninja. It's a great little program that will improve the look of your digital pics by removing noise, and it will sharpen at the same time.

My Canon Rebel XT can shoot with ISO 100, 200, 400, 800 & 1600. I have close to 8,000 photos and almost all of them have one of thos ISO's. Almost.

I gave the camera to the wife to take to DD's last day of Kindergarten. She took 56 shots and 12 are at ISO 125 and 7 are at ISO 160. Besides those 19 shots, everything else ever shot with this camera has been at a normal ISO.

I have checked the EXIF value in both ZoomBrowser and Lightroom and they both have the odd ISO's.

I don't think the Rebel XT has 1/2 or 1/3 stops for ISO. Has anyone else seen this before?

Just a guess, but was she in full auto mode? That mode might make incremental adjustments to ISO that other modes cannot access.
