Isn't this the member cruise up for auction?

I feel very bad for the member that is unable to go at this late date, but I think I have a problem with openly selling the member cruise on ebay. Will MS require that the change of names be for another member do you think? Does it matter? Not trying to create an issue, but it raised some interesting questions for me.

If a member uses their points for a guest (rental or otherwise) that is their right and within the rules. This is not truly any different. There was no requirement that one be a member to go only that the cruise be booked for points. I suspect there may be others who rented points to go on the member cruise. How would you like to be on the cruise as one of only a few non members. I do see how it appears strange on first glance.

This issue is no different than the rental discussion in general. If a member rents out a high demand time or unit (VB beach cottage, GV, BW standard view, Xmas, Easter, etc) those are all within the rules and there is no possibility or method to reserve the highest demand options for the members direct use only. Just like the Millineum lottery was intially for members direct use only but could be changed later to a guests name.

I don't think there would be an issue with a member booking this cruise for someone else. My concern is will they be able to have the names changed on the ressies. My understanding is that DCL will change all names on a ressie, EXCEPT for the main or first name. I just don't think the seller will be able to sell this cruise and have all documents changed to the new passengers names. I had a friend who had paid cash, and was unable to "give" the ressie to another friend, due to the inability to go. She had to cancel the ressie and pay any applicable penatilies. Again, I feel bad for the member who can't go, but I just can't see this type of transfer being able to go through with DCL, regardless of any MS issues.

I was kind of wondering about that aspect, too. While we haven't cruised on DCL, I assume their security procedures are just as stringent/thorough as other cruise lines. To me, trying to change names on the cruise tickets would be analagous to trying to change names on an airline ticket. Don't think you can do it without cancelling, and rebooking. I could be wrong.

I really wasn't questioning the member's right to rent their points, though I thought that I recalled on the original conditions for the cruise that the reservation had to be in a member's name. I may not be recalling correctly, but due to the demand for the cruise I thought they had made this a requirement (not arguing this SHOULD be the case, just that I thought it was for this cruise). In any case, the issue of changing ALL the names on the cruise reservation was one of the more intriguing issues to me.

Seller mentions a $75 name change fee in the offer- maybe he checked with MS and they are allowing him to do this for that fee- he also offered to trade it for points so if anyone is on the wait list, they could take a shot at it.

I do feel for the seller, and I hope it works out for all involved.

The Member Cruise does require it be in a Member's name and it is available for booking with points, or cash basis as well. Prices were listed along with point charges in the original announcement.
