Isn't the New Pick-Up Area Great?

I think the new pick-up area for shuttles and limos/towncars is one of the best improvements that DCL has made in a long time! We've used it twice now, and it's so much nicer than having to walk across the street into the parking lot. It's covered, too, which was nice when it was raining for our last cruise. It is very well organized, with signs and queues for the rental car shuttles. We were using Budget the first time we sailed after the pick-up area was open, and it was easy to find them. The next time (last week), we were using Happy Limo. Only thing to be aware of with limos/towncars is that they will pick you up at the end of the area, but the drivers will meet you at the beginning of the area. There isn't enough room for all of them to sit there and wait in their vehicles. We disembarked a little earlier than our pickup time, so our driver was not there yet. At first we didn't realize that we needed to watch for her there. Then my husband figured it out and went back to the "driver area"...sure enough, she was there waiting.

I saw this being built during my last cruise this summer. I'm just surprised that Disney didn't do it sooner. I mean, they're supposed to be the master at moving huge numbers of people around in a quick and efficient manner, right?

It was near compeltion when I was there last month. I looking forward to it next month. We are using a limo service so this will only add the the experience for my DB and DN. This will also add to the surprise for DH. His idea of a vacation is you fly there take a limo to the door and then reverse the process. Thank goodness we live close to the airport so there are no long drives. :boat:

I will have to disagree with this pick up area being better.

When we disembarked after late breakfast on the Wonder, the area was so full, we could not get to the area where the limo drivers pick you up.

We had to park our bags in the area prior to the first rental space. Just around the corner from the gate.

We could not even walk down the sidewalk (without luggage) to see if the limo driver was there. I walked in the street and was told to get back onto the sidewalk.

I much preferred the parking lot, at least there was room over there.

When the limo driver finally arrived, he could not come up to where our luggage was and we had to haul it down the side walk saying excuse me, excuse me, excuse me.

This was the only dissapointing thing that happened on our cruise.

I should probably point out that we disembarked between the two "waves." We don't eat breakfast on the last morning, so we got off the ship after the people who eat first were already gone and before the late-seating people were done with their breakfast. That might have had some influence on the fact that it wasn't too crowded for us.
