Thanks to HHN and word of mouth advertising finally starting to pay off, Islands of Adventure posted a 10% increase in attendance this year, attracting 6.1 million visitors according to Amusement Business. This is a record year for the park. Universal Studios Hollywood also posted a 10% gain, bringing in 5.2 million visitors. Universal Studios Florida did not fare so well, as attendance there dropped 6% to 6.9 million.

Here is the U.S. Top 10:

1. Magic Kingdom; 14 million, down 5%

2. Disneyland; 12.7 million, UP 3%

3. Epcot; 8.3 million, down 8%

4. MGM Studios, 8 million, down 4%

5. Animal Kingdom, 7.3 million, down 6%

6. Universal Studios Florida, 6.9 million, down 6%

7. Islands of Adventure, 6.1 million, UP 10%

8. Universal Studios Hollywood, 5.2 million, UP 10%

9. Sea World Orlando, 5 million, down 2%

10. California Adventure, 4.7 million, down 6%

It should be noted that these are estimates and may or may not reflect the final numbers for the parks, which are not released to the public.

IOA's showing is especially impressive when you consider that 66 million fewer foreign visitors came to the US in 2002.

when the internationals are away, the locals come and play.

the guy with tigger in his sig (i forget your name, dude!) stated that, or it was in an article he found and posted. it's a very true statement, though.

I find it so hard to believe that "Not A Zoo" Animal Kingdom is doing better then Universal or IOA. Almost everyone I know hates that park because all it is a over prices zoo.

As Disney said "Our lowest attendance theme park Animal Kingdom does better business then all Central Florida Theme Parks combined."

I don't trust those polls.

But remember most people going to Disney are there for roughly 4 days to a week and through the course of their vacation will hit all four theme parks. Good or not vacationers are going to walk through Animal Kingdom's turnstiles simply because its there. IMO AK really is not that bad of a park. Scarce on attractions it is but theme wise AK scores an A+, total immersion.

Actually, Amusement Today is pretty reliable. The 4 WDW parks usually round out the top spots followed by Universal and then the Florida AB parks. MK always seems to get the largest number of visitors per year. No wonder MK usually feels swamped! :)

That's probably why we have also not seen an E-ticket attraction at any Magic Kingdom in close to a decade. If attendance is high enough and keeps coming back why fix something that isn't borken.
