EPCOT Double Decker Busess (yes I am that old) or Walt’s vision the People Mover!
I love the People Mover and Omnimover attractions! It’s part of why I like the Skyliner so much. Disney’s accessibility for mobility aids is to be applauded, but there’s gotta be a better way to handle ECVs on the monorail than CMs having to lay ramps down each time… it feels like the time spent on that can contribute to putting other trains on the loop into holding pattern?

But I digress. At the end of the day ~1,000 Island Tower guests are going to be split between the four parks, the waterparks/DS, and those not leaving PVB grounds. If ~300-400 IT guests are going to MK or Epcot each day, at least some will boat to MK too. Or walk. I guess my hunch is that the resort monorail fills up from factors that an additional 1,200 max occupancy isn’t going to noticeably change: like the resort hopping for dining and experiences that Disney encourages, or people at TTC wittingly or unwittingly taking resort instead of express.

Lol. Don't forget the square portal thingys.
I thought you were talking about some kind of portals at the longhouses. I just realized that you mean those square portals in the new tower.

I’m out for the afternoon but when I get home this evening, I can post an update showing what those are for.

Left portal is a few floors above the restaurant/bar. Any chance they put a dumb waiter in?

Here it is... the new & improved Island Tower 2.0 with monorail and skyliner service to theme parks. Because these had to go through the portals, direct zipline access has been relocated to the roof. Also, the Fort Wilderness cabins that were considered to go in those portals will now be over-the-water cabinalows.

I’d buy that home resort at $450 per point!

Am I a terrible person because I actually like that better ?! 🤣
There are dozens of us, dozens!

In all seriousness, I do think it would make for a better skyline and the resort would feel a little more immersive— but I’ve accepted the fact that Disney does not care if the new tower blends well with the existing structures, and if it gets closer than it is now that will be upside to my modest expectations.

More than anything, the scale is off to me. However, in 40 years the Poly longhouses will be 90+ years old. The chance of Disney keeping them until the end of the PVB contract is slim to none.

We could very well see them start to tear down and rebuild the non-DVC longhouses within the next decade or so. And watch the new buildings match this esthetic.

Let me tell you something about that tower 🤣 it is vertical, and it is beautiful. We are at AKL and ended up with a room in Narnia. Thankfully it’s only a weekend, any longer and I'm going to need a hip replacement. I don’t care what color that tower is anymore 😭

It’s vertical, but is it actually closer to transit than your room in Narnia? I know the AKL resorts are big, but other than the boats (which I believe are quite close) isn’t the monorail/gch/bus loading area a half mile or so?
