Island Tower at Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

I watched the video of the 1 bedroom and studio and it is disappointing. We plan on staying there still, but I am tired of Disney not making their rooms feel like Disney ones.

That is why we stay at Disney's resorts because they feel like Disney. These rooms are very beige, and they do not give me the same vibes as the original Poly.
The good news is that those original rooms with the great vibes will still be there. :-)

I would love it today, if it was clean and comfortable, just for the nostalgia factor. Especially if they piped in actual 70s programming into that TV!
It's funny to think that all we had was MK back then and it was a big deal to stay at Polynesian or Contemporary "never did". We drove up from Broward County to get there when the park opened and drove back the same night. The few times that we stayed overnight it was in a mom-and-pop hotel in Kissimmee. What a huge deal it was when Epcot opened, and you could monorail over.

If the sales start Oct 1, which certainly seems to be building a case, do we think the resort won’t open to DVC bookings until next year?

I know that’s odd and unprecedented. Booking’s opening only 8 weeks out would seem quite extreme. Maybe they just aggressively sold through the holiday window with cash that they decided to hold off the first unit declaration.

I’m starting to think points bookings won’t start until 2025 so DVC doesn’t have to issue 2024 points.

Not sure Disney is concerned about any timeline.

Original PVB sales started to members around Jan. 12. New sales started Feb 1. Resort opened April 1, 2015.

On top of those sale dates, DVD bungled the timeshare license in most states, to the point they couldn’t even talk on the phone about the resort to several potential buyers until some time in March. It was 🤪 to see the posts of people flying to WDW just to buy PVB.

We bought the first week they could sell in our state. We stayed early May of that year and there were a lot of issues. Things were bad enough that we vowed never to stay at a resort the first year. 🤪 we broke our own vow and have Island Tower booked on cash for opening days.

Good to know there is a precedent for such a tight booking window! I’m sure it won’t matter, ultimately, as it’s a popular enough window that members will eat up the holiday scraps last minute.

I think I'm the only one who's hoping for later so that way I have more time before the resort goes on sale to save up money and potentially delay my purchase to early 2026. I don't want to lose out on the first years worth of points and I have an April UY so if they push it off until 2025 to start sales I'll have more time to recover from other less important things before buying like a wedding..(kidding, please don't let my partner see this) 😬

I'm pretty certain a good chunk of them delaying Poly tower though is just because they want CFW to have more time in the spotlight. I mean the resort hasn't even been open 7 days yet and they want as many people as possible signing up for the cabins however little that is before they release Poly and CFWs sales essentially become nonexistent.

If it’s the same resort, why would it matter? Poly already has 2024 points.
Correct, existing Poly owners have 2024 points… but the points associated with the tower are new, additional points that aren’t yet declared into the PVB association. If Disney doesn’t open the tower for points bookings until 2025, I believe the new contracts they sell would start with a 2025 UY. Of course, existing owners of PVB1 will still have 2024 points, but it’s my understanding that the contracts associated with the tower wouldn’t get 2024 points if the points bookings begin in January instead of December (because those points don’t “exist” until 2025).

Since the resort is opening in 2024, even if it ends up just for cash, , DVD could decide to give some UYs 2024 points, if they want.

I don’t see them holding off points bookings for too far into 2025, assuming they do at all, so if the start is with 2025 points, pretty much every UY would be borrowing, and the MB program wouldn’t be much of an incentive.

But, they definitely can put the date of declaring into 2025 for first points booking, and I can see that, even if they give 2024 points, just so they don’t have to pay the full cost of MFs for those last 14 days of 2024.

I also have an April UY. How does this work again?

- If they sell points before the end of 2024, maybe there is MB incentives on 2024 points and I only have to wait until April 2025 for current year points? Or...
- If they sell points before the end of 2024, maybe there is MB incentives on 2023 points (because PVB is not a new association, even though the tower is new?) and I can use or bank 2024 points and only have to wait until April 2025 for more points? Or...
- If they sell points in 2025 and there are MB incentives, then would the MB incentive apply to 2024 (because PVB is not a new association, even though the tower is new?), and I can get/use 2025 points? Or...
- If they sell points in 2025 and there are MB incentives, then would the MB incentive apply to 2025 (because DVC doesn't care about existing PVB associations), and I have to borrow from 2026 use year points for 2025 reservations?

LOL... can you have the wedding at VGF and use points for the honeymoon stay?

If I understand everything correctly, believe either of these scenarios are possible (and not the others you posed). Disney won’t/can’t apply any incentives based on PVB1 points already existing because they’re not applicable to these new tower purchases.

(Of course, this ignores any PVB1 points that Disney may have in inventory from foreclosures/ROFR but that’s such a small number in comparison and really complicates the conversation, so I’m sticking to what the prevailing incentives might be for new tower contracts only, since that’s all that will be offered when the tower does on sale.)

There will be no 2023 points because the units were not declared in 2023…being part of the same association doesn’t change that. When BPK went for sale, they did not sell any points deeded to original units, even though they had them…this way, they could start with 2022 points for all.

So, the first potential set of points will be 2024. Since they are not even on sale yet, we have no idea which UY they will begin with.

If I had to guess, I think we will see 2024 points given, for at least some UYS, even if points booking don’t begin until 2025.

We are still waiting to see a master declaration on the occompt web site.

If they follow the BPK timeline, the master declaration will show up this week.
If they follow the CCV timeline, the master declaration will show up in 2-3 weeks.
If they follow the original PVB timeline, we will be waiting until September for the master declaration.

I'm basically just hoping the first year of points is in 2025 so that I can come in right before April of 2026 and purchase then and get the 2025 points banked. I'm not sure if there will even be 2024 points for us though (it seems to always work out that way with us having an earlier use year). I'm hoping that if the sales are delayed, assuming incentives get worse for the tower over time the deal I get in 2026 won't be much worse than whatever the opening incentives are.

My partner is not a fan of VGF so that was not an option and is the reason why we didn't end up buying there. We're actually having the wedding in Epcot behind spaceship Earth. Currently have 3 2BRs and a Grand Villa booked at RIV over a 5 day period, also waiting until 7 months to book a night in a bungalow and potentially have a little dessert party near the beach and watch the fireworks for our guests. I originally was toying with doing a fireworks cruise but I would've had to rent like 5-7 of them. Honeymoon is TBD but we do have Aulani booked a month after although I'm not sure if I'm counting that as our honeymoon because I'm greedy 🤣
