DD7 & I are currently watching Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. We're trying to figure out why the doll is a "misfit". Does anybody know?

Hmmmmmmmmmm . . .I'm trying to remember . . .she either didn't have a nose or couldn't smile . . .or it could be neither . . .

Bump :Pinkbounc

The polka dot elephant never seemed like it should be a misfit toy to me.

According to Arthur Rankin, he jokes that she has psychological issues. Actually, it is a mystery as she was barely mentioned in the original script which was written by Romeo Muller. I think in the song that the characters sing, she mentions something about children only wanting dolls that coddle and coo. She can't do any of those things.

I've read that the doll's problem is psychological. I don't know how reliable this link is, but here's one explanation.

The elephant is a misfit because elephants are not "supposed" to be pink with red spots. I don't care - I like him anyway. :upsidedow

In 1963 she wasnt even in the script she and the spotted elephant didnt get lines to say until 1965.

Obviously, the doll is there because she can sing, dance, and have independent thought processes. Add an axe and you have Chucky. :p :teeth:

OMG - we were just talking about this yesterday! :earseek:

The squirtgun shoots jelly. The cowboy rides an ostrich. The elephant has spots. The train has square wheels. The boat sinks. The jack-in-the-box is named Charley. Rudolph's nose glows. We couldn't think of anything wrong with the dolly.

I tell my girls that she is there because nobody loved her or played with her. I then tell them how do you think those toys in the basement feel?

Hehehehehe....gets them everytime when they start asking for a bunch of stuffed animals & for donating them.

I've always said I would gladly take the spotted elephant! He's so adorable!!! If they would sell stuffed animals from Rudolph, I would by him in a heartbeat!!
