Is your mother "Mom" or "Ma?"

For me it's mum (British grandparents) or ma. Ma is not what I'd call her to anyone else though. So I wouldn't say...Well me ma told me to change the paper in the loo.

For my Dh it's mami or ma(he's hispanic).

My mother is a "Mom" and so am I. She lives in Illinois and I live in Wisconsin.

She is now a "Grandma" and my MIL from NY is "Nana", but I think that is a different discussion.

It's "Mum". British grandmother and it seems to be a part of "Pittsburgheze", too.

I call my mother Ma. My husband calls his mother mom. We're in Boston by the way.

Until I met DH (from Pittsburgh), I didn't realize that any Americans also used "Mum," but everyone he grew up with did. I have met other people from Pittsburgh who said "Mom," so I wonder if the neighborhood you grew up in matters. I grew up 1 1/2 hours from Pittsburgh, but we said "Mom."

My mother is "Mom", so am I, and my DH calls his mother "Mom"...all born and raised in WI. :)

Momma. Still. And I'm 36! (It is also still Daddy, too.....:goodvibes)

I do however call them by their first name sometimes - usually when being funny.
And "MOTHER" does come out of my mouth on occasion - but NEVER "FATHER!" (Guess I don't get as mad at him:rolleyes1)

I called her Momma or Crazy lady. :) We called our grandmother Ma (and grandfather Pa) for a long while, but now call her Grandma.

I think most the time I call my mother "Ma", I live in NYC, and I think alot of people around here use that.

It was Ma, Mama, Mommy (if I wanted somthing), Mother (if I was annoyed) or Lisa (when I was mad) Lisa Ann (when I was REALLY mad). Most of the time, it was Ma. I can remember going shopping with her & saying "Oh Ma, look at this"....Gosh I miss her.
 I agree, the name changes in context! However, I never called my mother by her name:eek:I wouldn't be here posting about it right now! :)

Grew up in NJ and always called my mother - Ma
I grew up in NJ too and while I mostly call my mother mom, by brothers call my mother Ma.
Mommy is definately a thing in NJ too. I know so many people my age and much older that still not only call but refer to their moms as Mommy. :goodvibesbut know no one here in Ohio who do.

Southern here and it's always been mama. My kids call me mama, mommy if they want something, and my first name if irritated at me (all in fun usually). My father was always daddy and my kids call their dad daddy, too, and his first name if they're irritated at him.

In conversation I refer to her as "Mum." When talking to her I almost always call her "Mamma." (I picked it up when I was about 8 from a Jane Austin movie and it just sort of stuck.)

My mom is both. Mom in general, Ma when she is driving me nuts. Sometimes I call my mil ma, dh does too. He still sometimes calls her mom or mommy too.

We are both from New England but live in the south for right now.

I'm 35 and I still call my mother "Mommy":goodvibes. When I'm trying to get her attention it's "Maaaaaaa!". I'm a little Stewie (for those of you who watch Family Guy).

My children call me Mommy but they call my mother Mama.

I call mine mum (my brother does too and my cousins call theirs mum as well)
my Daughter call's me mom...or stupid, mean, anything like that..tween ;)
my husband from KY calls his mom BUT
the other day he was talking to his sister on the phone and he said mum! :lmao: when I told him later he denied it:rotfl:

She's "Mom."

When I was a little kid she said to never call her "Ma", she felt it was disrespectful. :confused3 I don't see it that way, but knew I better abide by her wishes. :)

Betz or Betsy. I have never called my mom mom/mommy/ma/mama. My oldest brother varies from Ma to Mom. Baby brother between Mom and Betz.

(My mother remarried when I was young. My step-brother & -sister called her Betz/Betsy. I was learning to talk, that is what I learned. It never bothered her. Oldest brother is 7 yrs older, he always called her Mom/Ma. Baby brother is 9 yrs younger.)

Now my mom calls her mom Mom. Her dad was always daddy until the day he died. She was raised in the south, Memphis. Hubby calls his mom Mom.
