When I was younger all I ever wanted was to be married and be a mom... so yes, my dream came true. DH and I grew up with similar childhoods, his a little rougher than mine but same socioeconomic class(poor...lol). We both had similar goals we wanted to accomplish when we were older and actually made a list of those things when we first got married and I thankful to say we've achieved all those things and more. Despite some difficulties along the way, we've been very fortunate and I am grateful.

I think I hurt people with my post. Again, I have lots of hard things in my life too. I am in no way insinuating my life turned out exactly as I planned. I don't think it's a bad thing to look back and think "hey, these particular things turned out pretty much as I'd hoped and that's pretty great!" That doesn't mean there aren't tons of things that have not. The reality is that I'm coming out of some of the hardest weeks of my life and counting my blessings is helping me. Is there are way to just delete this thread?

Yeah. Married the best woman in the world and she thinks she married the best man in the world. That really goes a long way. Knowing we'll get through the bad times together means a lot. Been on a good number of vacations, seen a lot of things, live in a decent area. I'd like to move states and that's in the works. So yeah. All in all not the stuff of fairy tails but mostly a dream. Better than I thought I'd get when I was a kid.

There was nothing hurtful about your post - no one should be ashamed of or feel they can't share the GOOD in life.

Is my life a dream come true? Well, I will honestly say I didn't have a roadmap or dream as to how I'd like my life to go, I just always was in the moment....with that said I think if I could, at the end of it all, design a "dream" life for myself it wouldn't be to far off from where I am now. A strong 29 year marriage, two well adjusted sons who turned out to be productive, decent guys and a healthy family, and a hell of a goofy dog. Do I have some family drama/wackadoodles in our extended family - you betcha. Have there been deaths, illness - sure. No one escapes that, but on the whole it's been a great life so far. I can either dwell on the crap, or celebrate the good.

It's okay to say the good stuff, never apologize for it.

I can't complain. I am loved, have a wonderful wife, two great kids, two wonderful Grandaughters. Made it out of the crazy work world after 42 years and retired a year and a half ago. I have reasonable health for my age.

I think my life is one many would be happy to live if the same things that make me happy make them happy.

There are certainly people who I feel live better lives but I am happy with my life.

If my life would be a dream come true, the following would be different….
- I would have been brave enough, when I was in college, to not listen to people on why I shouldn’t be a teacher, because now my biggest regret in life is not being a HS History teacher.

I understand you feel it's too late for you to become a HS history teacher, but there are many ways to teach history that don't involve a physical classroom. Can you become a tour guide who gives historical tours of your city? Can you become a historian for an organization that's meaningful to you? Can you find a co-op of home-schooling parents, and teach history to their kids? Sometimes we can fulfill our calling in a slightly different way than what we first had in mind!

It's clear that you're a caring person and that you didn't intend to hurt anyone with this thread. I think there is the good and the bad in every life, and no one's life is a perfect fulfilled dream (and hopefully even the most difficult lives have at least some good moments in them). If this thread helps people to be grateful for those of their dreams that were fulfilled, and to re-focus on new approaches to achieving the remaining ones, then you've helped some people with it. I also think that as we go through life, our dreams can develop and change, and sometimes we get back around to long-ago dreams that for whatever reason we didn't already pursue or achieve, or didn't even fully realize that we had.

I have the most awesome and amazingly handsome husband in the world and we’re still madly in love (it really disgusts our kids lol) after all these years, we have 5 beautiful, healthy kids, and we have everything we need. I’m truly blessed.

Is your life a "dream come true?"​

Depends on which "dream" I think about. I've had at least 3 different dreams as to how my life was going to play out. Generally, parts of all 3 have happened, but not all.

Overall, I'd say my life is pretty good, but, of course, there have been rough spots.
