Is your bedroom restful?

Is your bedroom restful?

  • My bedroom is clutter free and beautiful

  • Are you kidding? It's the only place I have for storage or workspace, etc

  • I need to clean and freshen it a bit, thanks for the reminder

  • I never really thought about it

  • Who rests and sleeps in the bedroom ;-)

My project for the new year is to reclaim a bedroom for me. (Actually two bedrooms.) I'm in my childhood home that's filled with about 40 years of clutter from the family. Last winter my cousins and I worked on reclaiming 2 of 4 bedrooms and the Laundry/Mud Rooms. It started as a way for me to get a decent sized bedroom but we ended up concentrating on creating a nice big bedroom space for my dad. This winter will be my turn.

I can't wait. I want to go for a beach/country oasis feel. White furniture, big bed, space for work, clothes and relaxation.

Until then I'm in the smallest room in the house, more a computer office room than anything. I have no place to keep stuff so end up putting alot in storage elsewhere or giving it away. (I keep my suitcases full for travel and a place to put clothes.)

I can sleep in my room and watch TV, but that's about it. It's just not worth another round of sorting until I can move into a larger space.

The only way to get my bedroom clutter free, restful (ie free of computers and other electronic media), and beautiful would be to get rid of my DH.

And I'd kind of miss him, there in my clean, restful, beautiful and lonely bedroom.

I'm never awake in there for more than a few minutes, so I guess it's restful.:)

Exactly. My eyes are closed most of the time I'm in the bedroom anway. I guess ugly would be more restful because it would force me to close my eyes.:lmao:

We put up new wall paper, repainted and put new curtains (blackout type) in the master bedroom 27 years ago when we bought the house. We don't have any plans to do change anything, ever.
My MIL was the complete opposite, she has to buy new furniture and redesign everything in the bedroom every 5 years or so, which explains why she never had any money.
I come by this naturally, other than replacing the curtains with vertical blinds, my parents master bedroom is exactly as it was when they moved in to the house in 1960. And the furniture is all the stuff they bought when they got married in 1950.

I live in a house my parents had built, which my mom customized to the way she lived. The guest room was my mom's dressing room and has two closets. The master has no closet. I also don't have an entry closet or a linen closet. Add to that, the master is the furthest away from the furnace. I've done my best with storage and heat, but it's never going to be a room I love.

Mine needs to be cleaned and freshened. Actually I've been planning to redecorate it for "awhile now." I have a queen size log bed, and log night stand and I've threaded pine bough-type garland (fake, of course) with pinecones through the headboard. I have a glider rocker and footstool, and lots of lodge "up north" type decor (loon lamp, loon wall hangings, a deer hide, canoe shaped shelf, etc.) but I want to tear out the carpet and put down a plain pine wood floor with rag rugs, paint the walls cream, and I have a roll of loon wall paper border to put up. I've got new lodge look (matches the comforter, with bear, moose, deer, etc.) curtains to put up, just haven't done it....I'm hoping to get it done by spring. :)

I voted "yes." My bedroom is simple, I have 2 bedside tables in there and no other furniture at the moment. I am hunting the perfect chair for the room. :)

Everyone that walks in my room says it looks like "Sannibel Island" (a place that I have never been to--yet!) It is a color called Summer cottage (blue/green) with white bead board on the bottom. I have used David Doss Disney beach pictures over my bed and have shells and beach stuff for the decor. It is a calm and peaceful place for me and that is really important to me.

Some of your bedrooms sound really awesome! Like the idea of the fish tank, flameless candles, seashells and even the lodge/loon theme! (Not sure I'd like the one with the drum set, though! :scared1: )

tvguy, are you guys going for a record or something? :lmao: We're over 21 yrs and it's definitely time for a re-do - just to freshen things up. We've renovated much of the rest of the house, and done the kids' rooms a few times now. Time for our space this time.

We'll keep our furniture (Yield House w/ pencil post bed), and the linens and curtains are relatively new. Mainly needs decluttering, paint and new carpeting. I don't have a theme persay, but I'm sure I'll change out some of the wall and other decor that I've had for a long time now. Will add some pretty paintings or some of my own photos. We also have to decide on a color - thinking along the lines of taupe or sage green. Something quiet and soothing. (We already have a beachy theme in our downstairs.)

My bedroom is very restful. The walls are lavender, the bedding has a cushioney duvet cover, lots of pillows, 3 large windows for fresh air and sunlight and decorations that remind me of my youth, My DHs side has his football trophies. I spend a lot of time there, it's my sanctuary, so I keep it neater than any other room in the house. I love my bedroom.

My bedroom is not particularly restful right now.

I just finished with exams so I have papers, textbooks, binders, post-its and notebooks all of the place. I spread everything out when I work and I haven't had a chance yet to put it all back. Plus with Christmas coming up I have shopping bags in the corner.

I definitely think my room has the potential to be a restful place and I plan on taking care of it this week now that this post has inspired me! I have pale blue walls, white curtains and white/wrought-iron furniture so I think I'll head to HomeSense and maybe grab a few new throw pillows and candles and get some storage containers for all the things cluttering the room up right now.

My biggest problem is that I just have too much stuff! I have a built in floor to ceiling bookshelf that is almost full, I have tons of clothes (most of which I don't even wear anymore) that seem to just end up draped over the foot of my bed and oh my goodness, don't get me started on the body lotions, perfume and and cosmetics on the dresser.:rotfl:

You know, I think this thread was exactly the kick in the pants I needed to take care of this!:thumbsup2

I couldn't pick any of the choices bc none apply. my room is not restful at all bc it is a mess through no fault of my own. My husband leaves it a pigsty - clothes all over, food/dishes on floor, spills from drinks and left cups when he is done, etc. My side neat, his a mess. I not only think about it all the time, I also beg him to stop! I would love a restful, clean place to sleep but it doesn't happen. Yes, I do clean it up but it reverts back.

It must be restful, because DH sleeps A LOT in there and as soon as my head hits the pillow, I am out. Not sure if that has more to do with the "restfullness" of my bedroom or because I am slap worn out by the time I get in bed!

Well, our bedroom is clutter free, but I wouldn't call it beautiful! It is like the rest of our house, no nick nacks on horizontal surfaces, nothing on vertical surfaces except curtains. It was a big step for me when we got a headboard!

It also helps that I finally switched the locations our of dressers so all my husband's stuff can be hidden on his side of the bed, and I don't have to maneuver through it to get to my dresser or the bathroom. Now that I think of it, maybe it isn't so clean, but since I don't have to see it any more I don't know any better!

No it's a dustyy mess and annoys me.

We just had DH's office party at the house so the main level is spotless, but the basement and the 2nd level are now my new major annoyance. I see a dumpster in my future!!!!!;)

Have you tried Pier 1? They have some nice smaller chairs.

Just wanted to say that this thread really did inspire me! Yesterday I cleaned my entire room and rearranged all the furniture. I bought some candles and am going throw pillow hunting on Boxing Day (kind of like a Canadian version of Black Friday on Dec 26th).

Thank you for starting this topic, I am in my room now and the difference in how I feel while I'm in here is really amazing! Totally should have done this earlier.:thumbsup2

I am so glad! Thanks for letting us know! :woohoo:

It's clutter-free as long as no one looks in the closet or under the bed! Oh, and it's very restful. We repainted last summer and have a mustard and medium brown walls with a room darkening honeycomb shade. Sun comes up on the other end of the house, so it doesn't let in tons of morning light, but is nice and bright in the afternoon.
