Is Wii Fit a good exercise program?

:cool1: Okay, it's almost the new year and as usual one of my resolutions will be to lose weight. Blah.

Would getting a Wii and a Wii fit game be a good exercise program? What else could I get to enhance the exercise program?:yay::woohoo::cheer2:

That all depends on how devoted you are to sticking with it - there's lots of kinds of exercises on it and I hear the yoga is a great way to work out.

We're playing Wii Fit right now! In my opinion (DH and I are very in-shape people...) it's not a good workout for athletes. For beginners, yes. It's very motivating, and FUN! It won't REALLY make you sweat and all that (at least not with the wii fit plus game). Now, that said, Jillian Michaels has a game out that I want- that, I hear, could do a good job! We LOVE it, but just to have fun on. Our workout is Shaun T (Beach Body) 'Insanity' and running. THAT will get you in-shape!

If you are just starting an exercise program, it can be decent. Not great, but decent. It gets you moving, and if you were sedentary before, it definitely is better than nothing. And, it might provide the motivation you need to get on the right track.

However, it is NOTHING like a real workout. To get aerobic with it, you need to run in place, and heck, you can do that without the wii fit, right? The weight training exercises are lame to the max, and IMO, almost worthless. The yoga is great, BUT has the annoying feature of being unable to flow seamlessly from pose to pose. You have to stop. Select a new pose, and then do it. I would like it a lot more if you could go from pose to pose without stopping, as you do IRL when you practice yoga.

HTH.

I know someone that lost 80 pounds (which was about 5 more than she needed to) with a combo of Wii Fit and low carb.

She did 1 hour a day on the Wii, at least 30 minutes aerobic (she did slowly work up to that).

I am stepping onto the Wii Jan 2nd.

I love my Wii Fit. I can't get out of the house often enough in the winter (I just really hate winter). It's great for days where I know I'd have done zero activity otherwise.

Plus, the little motivation tidbits on there are good.

Also take a look at EA Sports for Wii. I am hearing weight loss stories from that one! I got it for Christmas but haven't had a chance to do it yet.

TODAY I start my exercise routine! I am going to try EA Sports and see if it is enough.

Dawn

I lost 48 lbs using it and DH lost 62 lbs using it. We used it every night for 60minutes each, along with changing our eating habits. So for us, it worked. We still use it. We got it back in June of '08. We are going to get the Wii fit Plus game, to see how it works.
Good luck.

This is where the Fit Plus is better, you can move from pose to pose by making your own routine, even adding in strength training.

I'll agree it's nothing like going to the gym or doing an hour high intensity class, but it is certainly not worthless or close to it. I use it daily, in 100 days I lost 15 lbs (along with watching my diet of course... weight watchers sort of). If you use it regularly, you'll easily see your strength increasing with their strength training, I can do more push ups, more jack knifes, more everything... that's results.

I love it, I do about 45 min of my routine daily, mostly yoga. I try to do boxing, cycling, step daily too, but I do take a taekwondo class three times a week and most weeks I use that to count as my aerobics since I have trouble finding time to do it all at home with DS6 and DS3 and homeschooling them!

Basically, if you use it it will work.
Good Luck!

My kids are playing it right now - it can be fun, but I've found Wii Active is MUCH better - too much lag time in between exercising with the Wii Fit.

home anything will start you off. I am not a huge fan of working out at home. I got the Leslie Sansone "walk away the pounds" dvd. i got one that has the 1, 2 and 3 mile workouts on it. I like it b/c it is quick, works your whole body, and is fun. Not too strenuous either. You work up slowly to the 3 mile and they show you modified movements. I usually run in place instead of walking but I worked up to that.

You might want to try to get a few dvd's to try from the Library, see what kind of exercise you like, and then go from there.

I'm waiting for Jillian Michael's 30 day shred to come. I'm a little worried about that one!

I like Wii Active better for a workout. Wii Fit is fun and has some good stuff but I don't like the lag between exercises.

I like it a lot. I don't know that it can replace going walking or hitting the gym, but it can certainly enhance it!

I also bought EA Active. It's TOUGH! I also had issues with it registering the nunchuk in the pocket, but I will try it again and see if I do better next time. EA Active is more like working out with a trainer.
