Is where I plan on staying a good pick?

I just made reservations at Hotel Indigo in San Diego. This is where I am headed for a few days after my DL adventure. It will be just my Granddaughter (17) and myself (older than that). We are spending 4 days in San Diego and at most only plan on renting a car, say for one day, and walking the rest of the time.

Hotel Indigo is located downtown in/near the Gaslamp. What attractions do you plan to see while in San Diego? It's a bit more than 2 miles to the zoo, about 8 miles to Sea World, 5 miles to Coronado and about 10 miles to the beaches. If you're only renting a car for a day, you can take cabs to get around, but that will add up if you're planning to see many of the places I listed above. It's a very centrally located hotel though, so depending on what you want to see, I think that's a great location.

I know we want to do the zoo, and she wants a stamp on her passport, so a day trip to Mexico, other than that we have no plans.

Granddaughter Loves old architectural and can spends hours just taking pictures of the building in the Gaslamp area. When we were in Old San Juan last year she took some amazing shots.

Hmm. Have to advise against the day trip to Mexico. Are you aware of the current travel advisories? My husband is in the military, and currently government employees and their families are not allowed to drive down into Mexico. If you're not a government employee, you can travel at your discretion, but northern Baja is one if the areas that is recommended against visiting due to drug violence, kidnapping, and car-jacking. Add to that the fact that the wait at the border is typically 90 minutes to two hours (or more) in each direction. Not worth wasting a day of vacation and putting yourself in harm's way for a stamp.
