I was wondering if anyone here has an opinion about Vistana in orlando.

I just received an invitation to stay there 4 nights for $209 with a 90 minute tour, and a $100 gift cert to WDW or Universal.

I was interested in the Westin St. John and have already put out a search for that resort for summer 2004 with member services. I think sheradin/westin/starwood are related.

Should I trash the invite? or consider working it into my Feb. 2004 itinerary???

Opinions, experiences greatly appreciated.

Our friends have owned at Vistana for over 10 years. They like it very much and we saw the newer additions to the resort in January when we drove by. They look nice also. They are supposed to be very big with all the perks. Our friends have exchanged to St. Thomas, Mexico and other coarribean resorts.

I don't know anything about the resort, but if it means a WDW trip vs. no WDW trip, then....... Yes indeed, I would do it.

disclaimer: I also would not expect the DVC magic...

Hi there

I stayed at the Vistana last September, we stayed a Saturday night and then a Friday night in a 2 bedroom and it was great. We just were there at the beginning and end of our trip to BCV. I did this so I didn't have to use more points, it was well worth it. And it was only $99 a night, which was split between my Dad. So for that price go for it. But you may end up leaving with a timeshare, LOL:rolleyes:

There are actually 2 Vistana Resorts now. The original one in LBV was bought out by Sheraton a couple years ago and then Sheraton built a brand new one over on International Drive. I have stayed at both. The newer units at the LBV resort are nice, but the ones over on International Drive are exceptional. I must admit that there are more pools at the one in LBV, but we really liked that atmosphere over at the one on International Drive. I think that the rooms at the one on International Drive are nicer than any DVC resort I've stayed at. (I know, don't flame me.) One thing I will tell you is that they are a very hard sell company. We have taken the tour at both resorts and barely got out of there after 3 hours. We never bought either time and are pretty good at shutting sales people down. I couldn't believe how hard it was to get out of there. Plan on setting with them half the day. They have about 5 people come by to try to talk you into buying. We have friends that own at the one in LBV and love it. If you have any questions feel free to ask here or pm me.

Hmmm , that sounds like a nice place to visit, but the hard sell is kind of scarry. Not really what I want to be subjected to while on vacation. Thanks for the heads up , I knew I could get good info here, I really love these boards!!!

about 12 years ago, my wife and I took one of the "tours" at Vistana only because we were younger, had a morning to kill, and wanted the free park tickets (obviously we were poorer then too!).

all I will say is that because Vistana was such a turn off, I had specifically shunned DVC for many years just because I was under the impression it was just another timeshare.

we were carted into Vistana first thing in the morning. got to hang outside their main meeting room while the salespeople got their morning pep rally and orders (not something you would want to be present for - after hearing it, there was no way we were even going to consider buying). But, we took the tour, the salesperson pretty much knew right off the bat we weren't going to be buying, and we got a good chuckle when he said the standard financing terms were at 17% (yes, there is a 1 in front of that 7). we took our free park tickets (and considering what they put us through that morning, we deserved them) and decided right then we would never go look at another timeshare. luckily, somewhere along the line the shock wore off and we became DVC members.

if you go to Vistana, you will get a very hard sell. I wouldn't stay there even if the 4 nights were free.

OK I am putting on my flame suit for this reply:

Vistana, YUCK!

I'll try to give the Reader Digest version....

Prior to becoming a DVC member, we made ressies at the new Vistana as a referral from a friend who owned at the old one on International Drive. Three days before our trip, the Vistana called our house and said they over booked and didn't have a room for us... Needless to say we were less than pleased yet figured something would work out. We had airfare and no place to stay for July 4th week. A day or so later they came through with "special" arrangements to get us in at the old one. Great, we are tickled pink again! We arrive at the resort, we are greeted by a huge light up sign "VACANCY PLENTY OF ROOMS". The lobby is nice and we are happy with our first experience, then the high pressure pre-sales pressure start. We make the tour appointment and head to our room. When we get our room (still tickled pink, we're on vacation!) we open the door and almost DIE!!! The dining table has three legs, there is a black burn on the center of the living room carpet the size of basketball, cigarette burns on the counter, and the edges of all surface appear as though they were used to open beer bottles. It looked like a frat house. I figured it had to be a huge mistake or a Candid Camera joke. I pleasantly called the front desk and asked them if there was a mistake because it looked NOTHING like the web site pictures. After about ten minutes of hold time, they came back and said there was no mistake but if we found that much of a problem, they will put us in one of their newest best rooms. GREAT, we're tickled pink again. We go to the lobby to get the new room cards and ask to see the manager. She won't come out and said "there was no need to see me face to face because she was busy". I only wanted to thank her for her help. The member services rep, the same friendly guy as the initial check-in waits on me again. When he gives me the room cards, he flips them at me from across the desk. They literally hit me in the chest. Honestly! Now my jaw is hanging open is utter disbelieve. Stunned and repeating to myself "I am on vacation and dont' want to spend the time in jail", I take my cards and go to our new room. As we approach the room, the window screens were cut and ripped/bent off the windows and the door looked as though it had been kicked open based on the shoe prints on the door and broken door frame. The room was certainly nicer, but NOT DVC by any stretch (IMHO). I looked at my wife and she softly said to me after looking at the door and window "find another place to say or get us on the next plane home"...

I called Disney, got a room at Coronado Springs and checked out. Oh yeah... They refused to credit us back our full weeks stay. We were there for about an hour and a half total. Our friends that owned there and letters to the proper authorities finally helped it getting our fund back after about a month.

Through the entire process, we maintained a "happy go lucky" mindset, were very respectful to everyone at the resort, understood issues happen, etc, etc...

To date, our friends have not stayed there again and they cannot trade a week or any time after several years of repeated attempts. They have a February vacation week in a 2 bedroom too.

For us the rest is history. As we were driving onto Disney property we were saying "too bad Disney doesn't offer a product like that..."

I have heard a lot of very nice things about Vistana. So please don't think the place is horrid based only on what I say. I am sure people can have the same experience anywhere. Well... Anyway, this could have been a freak occurrence but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Best of luck and as always, have fun!!!

I have to tell you that you run a risk if you stay at the one in LBV. They have units that are pretty old. The newer ones (called the Cascades) are very nice. We have stayed in them. But we looked at some of the older ones and I wouldn't want to stay there. I think that if you are there for the tour they will likely try to put you in one of the newer units. If you just make a regular reservation then you are definitely taking a chance. But the one on International Drive has all brand new units and are very nice. Both times that we took the tour we had great rooms. We just hated wasting our day on the hard sell tour. We won't be doing that again.

Regarding the two locations, one of them is called Vistana Resort and the other Vistana Villages, and I can never remember which is which.

I have heard many nice things elsewhere about both locations. But if the LBV resort has been there 10 years, why isn't it sold out?

We have traded into Vistana several times, the one at LBV. We like the location, just a couple minutes from Downtown Disney. I always prefer to stay on-site, but for the deal you were offered, I would take advantage of it. It might be high pressure sales, but that rate is good. I can honestly say if I were offered that rate, I would do it, even though I own DVC. There aren't enough points to go around for all the trips I would love to take.

The reason that the one in LBV isn't sold out is because they keep building new phases. I think that they are pretty close to using all of their land in that location so they will probably sell out in the next few years. If I were going to buy at the LBV location I would buy a resell. There are plenty of them out there. A number of them are in the new units too. The one on International Drive is the one called Vistana Villages.

Six of us stayed there a few years ago, and DW and I were offered $200 to sit through the sales presentation. High pressure, but not as high pressure as many we've been to. We stayed in a 2BR in Palms, an older unit but well maintained. We sat through the presentation, politely said "No" throughout, and had little trouble getting our cash from them.

We liked Vistana, although we have not been back there since '97. That said, I would never buy a timeshare in Orlando unless I was planning on using it (as opposed to exchanging through RCI or II) since the Orlando area is seriously overbuilt with timeshares. And if you do want to buy, for goodness sake, don't buy from the developer. As was stated previously, there are a lot of reasonably priced resales available from the usual suspects.

We stayed there some years ago. We exchanged our other timeshare through RCI to get a week at Vistana. It was nice, but, BEWARE THE HARD SELL. The previos poster is right on!!! Lacee

Hi, We used the 1 BR promotional offer over Easter break. We could not get accomodations at the Vistana Villages but they put us in a 1 BR at the Caribe Royal which is about 1 mile away. We went to the early am timeshare presentation at the Vistana villages and we were completely finished in about 1.5 hours. IT WAS NOT A HARD SELL and had no problem getting $100 back at the end of the tour. They handed us cash.

The rooms at the Vistana Villages are very nicely decorated and a bit more formal than any of the DVC accomodations. However, I found the rooms to be smaller ie the double beds in the 2 bedroom units are right up next to the wall. Slightly inconvienent when you have 4 kids sleeping in those 2 beds.

We actually upgraded to a 2 BR villa at the Caribe for an extra charge per night so if your offer was for a 1 BR and you want a 2 BR you should be able to do it.

I would stay at the Vistana villages if the price is right but I would never by into it. I love the flexabiltiy with banking and borrowing in any increments of points you want. They do not offer that with Starwood. You can bank only and it has to be full weeks only.

My two cents. By the way, we own at OKW since '98 and have stayed at OKW, BW, HHI, and VB. NEVER had any major issues at any of the resorts.

Hmmm....Interesting comments about this resort. Though I have never seen inside the rooms, I have driven by, and even stopped and looked. I could not see a great deal from where I was, but they did not look like anything special. Please don't take that the wrong way, it's just that they did not look themed or have the Disney touch. That being said, they did not look run down or beat up in any way.

I think I am changing my mind, and would rather pay to stay somewhere else and forgo the sales pitch.
