Good lord, I know I'm asking for it with this thread, but I thought I should ask before doing.

A few years ago, my doctor gave me some valium to help me relax and sleep when I was stressed out.

If I take that on the plane with me, and they search my bag, and I have it without a prescription, could I get in trouble?

Yes, you could get in trouble if they search your bag. Every medication you carry, if it is a prescription drug, which valium is, must be in the dispensed bottle WITH your name on it.

Yes, you could technically get in trouble if you were carrying a prescription drug like that on you without the bottle. If they found it that is....

If you don't have the bottle, why not ask your doc to prescribe a few valium for you? I actually had a doc prescribe one valium for me before an outpatient procedure. He wanted me to take it an hour before we left for his office. It was kind of funny picking up a prescription with just one pill in it...but hey....one pill was all I needed.

Definitely! Not only is it prescription but it's also a controlled substance. I would see if the doctor can get you a small prescription.

It's simple: controlled substance + no prescription = trouble

how'd you get it without a prescription? or is the prescription just an old one?

I have some T3's but they're in the original bottle, from awhile ago...so technically they are with a prescription...

I'd call your doc and ask for a script for the plane.

If it is in the bottle and the prescription has your name on it, you're fine.

I think the question should be if you should take the pills that old. Some medications have expiration dates for a reason.

When I went to Florida last year I had to take numerous medications with me.. Just prior to leaving I threw my back out and was prescribed T3's (controlled substance) and Flexeral.. Then there was my migraine meds; over-the-counter Aleeve; over-the-counter meds for IBS; and my trusty inhalers.. I checked the airline web site and it said that ALL medications - prescription or not - had to be in their original containers..

If you still have the bottle with your name on it, you should be fine.. Just remember that any other meds - prescription or non-prescription - also must be in their original containers..

Have fun! :)
