Is Universal building a new park?

We just returned from Universal, and someone working at our hotel (not a universal hotel) told us that universal is planning to build a new park. I realize that there is always expansion planned, but I was wondering if this is something that others have heard as well. Does anyone know if this is true or have any info on it?

Thanks!

The plan when IOA was built was to have 1-2 more theme parks to have a total of 3 or 4. They had purchased 2,000 acres from Lockheed Martin for this expansion, but unfortunately, they have since sold this land.

Theoretically they do have the space for another park, to the left of IOA, though there's one road splitting the land right now.

That land is only enough for two additional resorts:

.

I wonder what the acreage is though, like I said without the road in the way,it's quite a decent size, looks at least as big as IOA's land

I have some old (and I mean OLD) brochures that say there is going to be a total of 5 hotels....so, i guess that land is going to be used for hotels in the future?? Wondering if they are pondering more hotels vs. another park?? :confused3 Time will tell............

It'll more than likely be used for hotels, however, that WOULD be enough space for another park if that road hadn't been put there. About the same size as IOA, just in a more unconventional shape. (Just as an FYI, most of the bodies of water portrayed on the undeveloped land in the 1st above image don't currently exist. It's an open field.)

The real issue is whether Universal even needs a third park. What would the theme be? It would have to be something completely original, IMO. They already have a studio park and another park that gathers a somewhat random collection of licensed properties. Is it feasible for them to create their own Disneyland from scratch? And is it worth investing in a new park rather than improving the current ones?

I think that would be very cool if they were/are!!! I LOVE universal! and i want more!

I am sure they need to fix that 15% drop in attendence first before they start to think about a new gate. It seems both parks are in need of a refresh or somesortsto boost footfall.

Pure speculation on my part, but could this be a new on-property site for Wet n Wild? That would be smaller than a traditional park, and according to WnW's founder, the rent on the current site begins to climb in 2007 and the lease is basically up by 2011 (give or take a year). A new site would also give WnW some hype to compete with the new Sea World water park which is under active construction as I type this.

2 years ago in August, our driver from Tiffany Towncar told us that there was going to be a new park....he pointed out where it was but for the life of me, I have no idea...all I remember was that it wasnt near the existing location.
