Is this your Phone Number?

The technical explanation:

First 3 digits = X; last 4 = Y
Phone number = 10,000X + Y

(250*(80X+1) + 2Y - 250)/2 is then the expression of the steps indicated.

So our equation is
(250(80X+1)+ 2Y -250)/2 = 10,000X +Y

factoring this out brings us to
(20,000X + 250 + 2Y -250)/2 = 10,000X +Y

drop the 250s as they cancel each other out, and do the division:

10,000X + Y = 10,000X + Y

Nutsy, an 8 digit phone number will not work as it does not shift your first 3 digits over far enough and the addition of the last '4' numbers makes for another problem. If you multiply by 800 at the beginning instead of 80, and add the last 5 digits of your number twice in the end and it should work for your phone number.

Wierd...how did I get my phone number with my last four digits repeated...

example: My phone: 555-1234

My answer: 55512341234

Then again....don't tell me how...I have to think too hard.:headache:

OH my word!! I've been tagged!!!

And here is some math I can deal with....my countdown to my trip to see Mickey!

:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Yes, it was my phone number. Can you explain a little simpler for us that are severely math impaired when it comes to algebra? Seriously, I flunked geomtry twice.

Cool! Worked for me, and thanks for the explanation Jeff. I agree with your math on that, you just beat me to it. :D

Yes, I TOTALLY understood that explanation, jfulcer...NOT!

Can you say "English Major".... :p

I got it.... blew my mind!
