In June were are spending 12 nights at AKL and our plan is to drive down and arrive the night before. We are thinking about spending our arrival night at one of the values to basically check it out for future trips..

1. How easy is it to check in at around 7:00 PM???
2. Is it worth the $120 or whatever compared to the $60 we could get a Comfort Inn just to get an idea??
3. How efficient is the staff to get our bags transferred to AKL?

We do this all the time. We stay the first night at a value and then move over to our DVC villa. It allows you to immediately take advantage of EMH, room charging, meal plans, etc.

We drive too and pack just an overnight bag for that first night so that we don't have to unpack the whole van until we check in for the main 7-day stay part of our trip.

Since you're driving, why not move your bags to AKL yourself? It will save you from unexpected delays in luggage transfer.

Keep checking the codes and rates board. I think you may be able to do better thatn $120 for a value.

I can't comment on checking in at 7PM; it could be crazy busy or dead as a doornail.

Have a great trip!

I agree, it would be fun to try a value, but not for double the price.

See if you can't get a good rate and stay more cheaply- and it doesn't even matter what hotel/room/view, since you'll only be sleeping there.

Might be fun to try something new...and get that Disney feeling right away!!!

No way I'd spend that type of money for a room at a value just to sleep for a night. You do'nt have to be a guest of a resort to visit--walk around, eat at the food court, check out teh gift shop--that shuld give you enough of a feel to decide if you'd like to stay there in the future.

You can get a really nice room at an off-site for that (check out the DTD Hilton or specials at the Swan/Dolphin), or spend half as much and stay at the Comfort Inn. The one on west 192 about a mile from Sherbeth looks practically brand new.

Or stay at the Embassy Suites by the airport for $100 for the night, get a two room suite, and indoor pool for the kids to play in, and a fantastic cooked to order breakfast included the next morning. From that point you are a 30 minute drive the next morning.

Any chance you have AAA? If so it may not hurt to call Disney and see if they have a room at one of values with an AAA rate for that night?
