Is This Vegetable THAT Uncommon?

I stump the grocery store cashiers all the time..... mangoes and papayas and avocados get mixed up all the time! Never had the issues with parsnips because most the parsnips I cook either come from my Dad's garden or they are bought in a bag..... I don't usually see them loose at my store. Makes you realize how far America has gotten from home cooking!......P

The cashier (very young guy) at the grocery yesterday had to ask me what something was before he could ring it up. The culprit? Asparagus. Surprised me. I hate asparagus (I still make it for my DH and DS) but I still know what it is. I didn't expect asparagus to be unknown.

Now that you mention it, you're totally right. Parsnips are always sold in a bag like carrots - pretty sure I've never seen them in bulk.

The market I frequent most often sells loose parsnips. But almost every other place, if they even carry them at all, sells them in the bags like carrots. My main market also has loose carrots, with the green tops.

I'm disappointed that my main market discontinued baby bok choy. I guess I was one of the few who bought it.





They still have grown up bok choy.

I knew it was a parsnip. My grandma used to call them albino carrots.
