Is this usual or unusual in FL regarding meds..

now I DO go to a pain clinic in Fl. and they do not let people abuse drugs, they pee test every month to make sure your not taking anything else and when I started I told him I was not ok with taking strong meds and he is fine with that..I was not getting MRI that I have struggled to get( and they helped me get it) and physical therapy that I can use....not ALL pain clinics are drug pushers....unless you have went I dont think you should say things like "all those pain clinics in Fl." some dr.s DO want to solve the problem.

So the OP's brother would have to go to the office in order to get the drugs prescribed, refilled script written in order to get the drugs then filled at the pharmacy.

.

That I can understand, the OP is saying her brother had to go the the office to get the actual drugs, not the prescription for the drugs. That part doesn't make sense.

I am speaking for my mom's PM Clinic they don't dispense the drugs, its possible others have a pharmacy on hand so that they can monitor the filling of the prescription as well. I was speaking based on what I knew based on the Clinic I have to take my mom to every month so that she can have hers done.

Florida is really strict we moved here from CT, where things are totally different. A few examples, In CT her Ortho would have his Physicians Associate write the script as in CT they are legally able to do so. So until she was set up at the PM Clinic here her Ortho in CT mailed the first few scripts to her each month. (with her issues she needs a specialized Ortho) his PA would sign those scripts, we had to have new ones fedexed to us because the PA isn't legally able to write scripts in Florida so they required the Dr's signature. In CT, she only had to be seen for her regular scheduled visits not every month like she has to for the PM clinic.

In my area (Southeast Orlando) CVS doesn't carry her medication in stock, they would have to order it and it would take 2 days to fill the script, where as Walgreens can do it in under an hour. Why, because CVS got tired of getting held up and robbed for the meds. Guess the addicts and the dealers haven't moved on to Walgreens yet.

I think the issue is that the PM clinics at least from what I have seen personally aren't all doing things the same way and so that is why there could be many different answers as to why the drugs get dispensed at the PM Clinic. Its all in that areas rules and regulations most likely.

OP I hope your Brother feels better soon!

I was thinking about this again last night.. He was still on the morphine pump when he made the call to the surgeons office.. Then by the time I talked to him, he was on the oxycodone.. (Which I know can make people not think too clearly..) Maybe what he meant was that he called the surgeons office to get something less strong than the morphine pump (being the oxy) and he thought they could call it in to the pharmacy, but actually had to go there to pick up the script..

That would make a lot more sense - and considering I had just told him our cousin had died at 2 p.m., his thinking may have been muddled..

Whatever the case may be, it sounds like Florida is having quite an issue with pain meds.. Is it really that much worse than other states? I just can't wrap my head around why they aren't able to shut down these phoney pain clinics faster..:confused3 For all these drug addicts know, they may be getting meds from another country that aren't even safe!

Well, first of all, my condolences for your cousin.

"Oxy" whether Oxycintin or Oxycondone is very strictly controlled here in MA. It is honestly the drug of choice to be abused so is under very strict controls.

Eh, the Assisted Living we Therapy Dog volunteer at had a late night break in last year. scared1: The police thought the perps were looking for Oxy, but all was Ok and the thieves did not manage to break into the drug cabinet. There was another break-in at another NF that did not turn out so well

Yep, residents at the Assisted Living cannot keep Oxy in their rooms and are not supposed to disclose to ANYONE that they take it. But, of course, some of them do . . .

Making your brother pick it up in person at the pharmacy does not seem out of line for the first scrip. After the first scrip is filled, the pharmacists here seem to ease off. Not sure whether they "should" but it does make things easier for caregivers when they do ease up for known customers.

Hope your brother heals fast and with no complications.

when I get my meds from PM they give me a scrip and I take it to CVS to get filled...I dont know why some places do that but most places in Fl are very strict...their are hinky docs in ALL states..look at hollywood..and the celebs that get thses drugs without ever seeing a doc.I have to see my doc 2 x a month in person.
