My wife and I are brand new DVC members -- we bought our points just before finishing our latest WDW trip, on Nov 10. Well, we paid our deposit and charged the whole shebang to our Amex, and than decided to make our first reservation.

Background: our use year begins in June. Our home resort is the BCV.

Banking our points from this year, and combining them with '03, we were able to book two weeks in a studio at the BCV in late July 2003! No wait list, no having to change resorts, no nothin'. We got what we wanted, our first time out, at our first choice, during one of the busiest times of the year. It was so easy, I'm almost embarassed about it.

Is this unusual??? Any experienced DVCers out there who can shed a little light?? Or are we just unbelievably lucky? (If we are, please don't hate me!) When we've gone for extended stays at WDW before -- anything more than a week -- my wife has often had trouble trying to book rooms for more than four days at a time in one block; seems that's how long most of the guests stay, so getting one room for longer periods can be a challenge.

Thoughts??

No that is not unusual. Now try to get the first two weeks of December later than the 11 to 10 month time and tell us about it - that is unusual. Spring break can be diffficulty - but if you call at the 11 month window you can get what you want most of the time.

DVC were set up for extended stays - so if the rooms are availability when you call MS - that is not a problem at a DVC resort.

You are still within the window where only BCV members can make reservations for that period of time. I would say that if you waited one more month, you might have run into some problems. It is nice for you that your first experience went well. My next reservation will be a day to day call for New Year's of '04 which I will be making in two months.

forgot - thanksgiving, the time between Christmas and New Years are all difficult times, too.

Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays, as well as the first two weeks of December - are generally day by day reservations unless you don't care what you get or where.

DVC members are the most knowledgeable of all vacation people at WDW. It does not surprise me that you had no trouble getting a room in late July. DVC members tend to zig when others are zaging. Late July is not really the best time to go to WDW in the heat of the summer and the crowds and the rain.
