Is This TRULY Racism???

Nope. Just the "PC" card getting WAY out of control :sad2:. When did we become a "backwards" nation :confused3

No. Why has patriotism become politically incorrect?

I checked the forum before posting and I didn't see anything, so I apologize if this has already been discussed. Should the racism card have been played in this case??? :confused3

Unless they were actually playing a team from another country, as in the school team had to travel with a passort to arrive at the game. Then yes it was. If both teams schools are in the USA then what is the point of the cheer otherthan racism.

Chanting their team name would have been one thing, but chanting USA at a high school event against this team was rude and could be seen as racist I guess. I would have been livid and embarrassed if our school team did this. It wasn't the Olympics, and the other team players are US Citizens. Just rude!

Patriotism <> Racism

Had they chanted I AM WHITE I AM WHITE. Then it would have been racism.

I guess I don't understand that. The article states they have chanted it after winning other games. Why is this one school so offended?

I find it racist and offensive. We all know exactly why they were chanting USA, and it wasn't because they're patriotic. It was to hurt and demean the opposing team. What poor sports!

How is it racist if the other team are citizens of the USA? Now if they chanted something like "white Americans, white Americans" maybe, but I'm not seeing racism, I see a losing team with their panties in a wad.

Well, apparently I am naive. I, personally, do not know exactly why they were chanting it. I would assume it was because they were happy they won and had chanted it at other games they have won. :confused3 Since when is chanting USA IN the United States racist and offensive.

in my opinion, people go out of their way to find something to be offended about these days.

Maybe I am naive, but I have never heard this done before. As a PP said, if it is the Olympics and opposing countries are playing against each other, I can see chanting "USA" after a win.

IMO it's pretty obvious that they are implying the other team are not Americans because they are minorities. :flower3:

I NEVER chime in in stuff like this but I cant take it anymore....If anyone is offended, they can always go back to their country..ANY COUNTRY anyone is from, yeah I said it, I don't care. I am so tired of reading this garbage. Kids getting sent home for wearing an American flag on their shirt, etc. I have my opinion and you have yours, but I'm tired of our citizens taking a beating for showing/having pride for our home country and having outsiders take offense or cry racism. Tough:mad:

It says in the article that it has been chanted at other games where the opposing team was not made up of minorities.

I have to agree.

If their own coach immediately made them stop the chanting than it must have been very obvious to everyone present that they were doing it as an insult to the other team and had nothing to do with being patriotic. :sad2:

I attended a HS where a good number of the kids were children of Mexican migrant workers, so I am quite familiar with stupid kids making comments that are intended to be racist and insulting and then trying to claim they were just being "patriotic" or similar excuses.

It really bothers me that some people find this behavior perfectly acceptable.

Question for those who do see this as racist...

Would you also find it racist if the other team had won and chanted, "Viva Mexico!"? :confused3

I completely agree with you.

Did you read the article? This isn't something they just decided to chant for this game, it has been done before, even against non-minority teams. The coach probably told them to stop because he knew that someone would cry racism, and surprise surprise someone did  Doesn't mean the team was doing anything wrong.

If the chant was used at other games that were not against minority schools, how on earth could it be implying anything toward this particular school?

It's ridiculous that these kids will not be able to play in State Title games because of something that has been chanted before and not questioned but becuase THIS time it was said in front of THESE kids, suddenly they shouldn't have said it.

IMHO, its getting way out of hand when an AMERICAN cannot chant USA for fear of insulting someone else.
