Is This True?

Birnbaum's Disney World Without Kids 2005 edition says that when shopping in the parks, you can no longer have your packages sent to your resort, but must pick them up at the park gates at the end of the day. That would definitely curtail my shopping. I would also think it would make the buses more crowded with everyone toting all their purchases. Is this true? :confused3

I haven't heard that one. I think that would be bad business and make people buy less, I can't imagine Disney doing that, but you never know.

I sure hope not. In May, I had my packages sent to my resort gift shop, and picked them up the next day.

I could see them ending the service if it ever ceases to generate sufficient additional sales (over and above what folks would purchase without the service) to cover its costs plus some margin. I would expect that if this was going to be the case, it would have been the case over the last three years, while the economy was bad, not now, when the economy is recovering.

We had packages sent from MGM to Pop in January. If they were doing it during the off-peak season and we haven't heard anything about them discontinuing it I would think it is still available.

I was a little confused because I thought they would deliver your purchases to your ROOM. At Pop they deliver them to a central pick-up location (ours was in the gift shop) and you have to remember to go get your things. Also, it is a 24 hour turn-around, so if you want your things immediately it is better to pick them up as you exit the park. :)

They started delivering to hotel gift shops a few years back -- it seems to be a good compromise between the cost of the service and the benefits both sides derive. The promise always has been, as far back as I can recall, to deliver the items by 5pm the next day. That's why we were never able to use the service even on the last full day of our stays.

They used to deliver your packages to your room, but now they deliver them to one of the gift shops in the resorts. Maybe this is what the book meant by that.

I think that they have stopped delivering to your room, but not to your resort. Last year we had to pick up our packages at the resort, they left a message for us on the phone.

Just got back a few weeks ago. They still deliver to your resort, you just have to pickup at the gift shop the following day.

Not all the shops can send things back to the resorts. We had the sillouettes done at MK and they were not able to sent things back to the resorts. They said that since they were one of a kind things, they didn't want to be responsible for losing them, which made sense, however, had I known that before we had them done, I would have waited until later in the day to get them!

We sent packages back from all 4 parks to our resort,no problem. :shamrock: :flower2: ::yes::

Just got back and yes you can still send packages back to your resort as long as you're not checking out the next day. They left a message on our phone when the package was availably for pick-up in the gift shop. They can also ship stuff directly home for you!
