Is this true?

fwiw - and I know that there are many of us on the boards in the same spot...

I've dealt with The Timeshare Store, and have nothing but good things to say.
I'm sure if they told you something, they will do everything possible to make good on it.

good luck with your purchase.

Sometimes the Disney marketing makes us forget the truth. These people are salesmen, not a personal Disney friend or consultant. Every moment they spend for your or with you is centered around generating a new sale, either directly or indirectly. This is their job. It should be expected that they will discourage your resale and use saleman "distraction speak" in order to save a deal.

I think all guides are different though. I worked for Disney Vacation Club from 1999 to 2001 and I have some good friends that are guides and I consider them to be very good people. These guides have been involved with DVC since as far back as 1994 and I consider them to be good people who wouldn't do this to people and these people have kept their job and always finish in the top amongst the guides each year. They tell me stuff that they hear the "newer" guides say and it drives them nuts and sometimes they will report this to managers as they feel things like that can only bring DVC down over time. Of course, they say most of these guides don't last very long.

My friend told me he heard this guide on the phone telling a potential buyer that just to think about how much his Bay Lake Tower would be worth say 10 years from now. Telling them it could probably sell for about $250 per point. This, of course, drives the other "good guides" crazy and they don't like to see it as well. My hope is that the good guides remain forever and over time the bad guides get weeded out.

Nice to see you active on the boards again and thank you for being a voice of reason on behalf of the good guides. I know they exist, but it is the bad guides that get them all a bad rap. We have been members for 19 years and have been fortunate to have only had good guides. Our original guide that we purchased from was one of the three first guides. He also trained the guides that came after him. When he retired the lady that became our guide was very good as well. She just recently retired too having been a guide since 1994. Now on only our third guide, we have a another good one that is also a trainer of new guides. I join you in the hope that the good guides remain forever and over time the bad guides get weeded out.:thumbsup2

1st rule of buying resale after having talked to a guide about buying direct - Don't call the guide and tell them you've bought resale. :thumbsup2

:)

Actually in your case i would make it a point to call him and tell him when you get it back from ROFR, when you sign the final contracts, when you close and when everything goes to Disney and the last call i would make is to request a new guide.

:)

One word: Salesmen.

7 words. Frustrated salesman who didn't get the sale. :)

This is one of those situations and actions that just doesn't make sense to me. Why antagonize someone doing their job? Maybe the guide didn't know when it was submitted and was giving words of caution.....or maybe at worst they were giving a last ditch attempt to get the sale. I personally would not have even told the guide I decided on resale, unless he called and asked.....I just don't get where two wrongs make a right by acting like you are one up on the guy. :rolleyes1

How is it a wrong? How is it antagonizing? If anything, it can help the guide know for the future, in case they were speaking from ignorance. Of course, if the guide KNEW he was lying then he'll be antagonized...

Yay for them reporting the situations!

And yes - guides will make up resale horror stories.

You don't have to tell your Guide that you bought resale, they will know as soon as your account is set up.

Great post!

Real world is not the internet. There's no need to "antagonize" folks just to show them "I know more then you did" :confused3
