Okay, so I'm on Wikipedia, looking at Disney stuff, and I found something I never heard before. I know Wikipedia isn't the most reliable source, so I wanted to find out if it was true or not.

From Wikipedia:
Never-built Disney resorts
Disney's Asian Resort - early 1970s (canceled because of 1973 oil crisis)[citation needed]
Disney's Persian Resort - early 1970s (canceled because of 1973 oil crisis)[citation needed]
Disney's Venetian Resort - early 1970s (canceled because of 1973 oil crisis)[citation needed]
Disney's Mediterranean Resort - early 1990s (canceled because of unsuitable building conditions)[citation needed]

Was Disney really going to build these resorts?

I remember reading somewhere-I think Tikiman's site-some history of WDW plans;and I remember a couple of those names.

yes, the med resort was canceled due to numerous soil and foundation support issues at the original site. It turned out to be too costly at the time. Of course, nowadays, is anything TOO costly for WDW?? Of course not, they simply pass it on to us addicts!

a little off topic, but I'd love to see them create a 'colonial america' themed moderate resort in the MK area and a 'old hollywood' themed deluxe resort in the MGM/DS area - I'd even go as far as wishing the old hollywood theme would be adults only!

Here is a copy of the map which was posted in my The Story Of Walt Disney World Commemorative Ediition A behind the scenes visit to the Magic Kingdom
which I got during grand opening of WDW in October 1971.

#1 Theme Park
#2. Golf Courses
#3 Golf Resort (now Shades of Green)
#4Surf Rider Beach (near the Poly there was surf machine to make waves which guests could surf on.---It was not operative very long because it caused too much beach eroision.)
#5 Polynesian Village
#6 Main Enterance
#7 Seven Seas Lagoon
#8 Contemporary Resort
#9 Bay Lake
#10 Treasure Island
#11 Tri-Circle D ranch
#12 Fort Wilderness
#13 Parking Area
#A Future Asian Resort- Hotel
#B Future Venetian Resort-Hotel
# C Future Persian Resort- Hotel

The old hollywood theme would be so much fun!

The old hollywood theme would be fun, my whole family loves MGM. but adults only?? at disneyworld?? :lmao:

I can see 1 or 2 of those hotels never coming to fruition, but all 3, thats just sad =( The proposed location of the Venetian is interesting...

An Old Holleywood themed hotel would be AWESOME...especially in the MGM area.

I can remember staying at the CR in the 90s and it really seemed like they were looking to build something just north of the TTC. That must have been the Venetian! That would be an pretty site, but maybe not a very solid one.

I have hard copies of some Annual Reports that actually have drawings of what the resorts would look like, talking about them as though they were sure things. I wasn't sure when I read the Wiki thing either, but DH and I saw for ourselves :)
