Is this true??? Soarin' to leave Epcot in 6mths.

Actually I heard France was getting Come Fly with me, where you ride in shoes that stink and watch basketball stars.

My understanding is that the attraction in Florida is called "Soarin'" instead of "Soarin' Over California" precisely because after the Happiest Celebration on Earth Disney is changing the movie to cover more of the country. They're NOT sending the attraction to France. But I do like Robo's explanation... :teeth:

I hope they do not change the soundtrack,... mind you, I rode the original Soarin' Over California in 2002 and have the music on the DCA cd. I suppose it would be an excuse to take a west coast trip also. ;)

1) I guess anything is possible.
2) Not usre about moving it to France, though.
3) Probable reasons for not going to France
. . . the french don't like american imports *
. . . the french aren't known for just hanging their feet around
. . . the french word for soaring is grimpant (sounds like a sad puppy)

I haven't been on Soarin' yet, but will in Sept. and I can't wait. I lived in California for a brief while and I think it is such a beautiful state that it deserves to be singled out. That said, I also think a film showcasing the national parks would be awesome. They could do Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Sequoyia, Glacier, Everglades, Smokey Mountains, etc..Wouldn't that be a cool way to showcase the whole country?

Yep. Its held down with just a half dozen wing nuts and can be floated anywhere in a matter of hours.

No need to keep it around Epcot. Heck, we've all seen it already...

but the French, they like ANYTHING American. I understand the French would be ESPECIALLY interested in a travelogue of California. Something about how much they envy our countryside.

And since I typed the above statements while speaking with a British accent, you can be sure to take it "extra" seriously. :rotfl2:

Is that why there is a height restriction, the building is only secured with half a dozen wing nuts. It probably adds to that flying feeling!

:joker:

*apologises on behalf of the UK for British citizens making ludicrous remarks*

Besides, they've only recently completed TOT in DLP. I doubt they'll be building another Soarin' attraction for DLP that it will be any time soon.

are they changing the film or are they just adding some to what it is now? i like the film now and i would hate to see it go, but i sure wouldn't mind if they add some varieties from other places.

No need for sarcasm...I just thought it was wildly ironic that I had the same experience as the OP's brother.

I like the film as it is but wouldn't mind it being changed. i would like to see the ending over the castle at the Magic Kingdom rather than at Disneyland.

I agree. I'm born and raised in the deep South and love Florida but the landscape down here does lack the variety and wow factor of California's mountains, deserts, rugged coasts and large cities. I'd love to see a new Soarin' featuring the georgeous scenery found across the US.

When we were there last September a CM told us that they were already filming a new movie that went worldwide. Supposedly it would include the TajMahal, Great Wall of China etc... That would keep it more with the EPCOT theminig.

This is one of the most ridiculous rumors that I have heard!

Yeah, that's what I would like. They could film some amazing things of they go worldwide.

For example
- Great Wall of China (mentioned by Kimber1963)
- Taj Mahal (again, Kimber!)
- Pyramids at Giza
- Aztec Pyramids
- Stonehenge (sp?!) or London (eg, the Tower)
- Eiffel Tower
- Rome and Greece (the ruins)
- Australian coastline (is it the Great Barrier Reef or something?)
- Grand Canyon
- Niagara Falls
- Killimanjaro
- Sahara Desert
etc.

There's so much they could film. And they could substantially increase the ride time. One of the biggest complaints seems to be, 'well, it's nice, but far too short'.

Now THAT'S why we almost always DRIVE to WDW! So we can stop at those rest areas in Geogia and smell the wonderfully, refreshing smell of PAPER MILLS!!! :thumbsup2

I know this is off topic but reading this made me realize that, as strange as it might seem, it is a sensory part of driving to WDW. Good old Georgia Paper Mills. A signal that, once encountered, it won't be long before WDW. Isn't it funny how sounds, odors and the like, trigger memories? Sitting here in Vermont I can almost smell that slightly rancid odor, but amazingly, happily.

:surfweb:

I know I had read somewhere on this board- or maybe Intercot's that they were actually considering updating the Canadian Pavilion because you could see part of the soaring building past the mountains and it was spoiling the facade. Please don't flame me here if this is untrue because I won't be there until Sept. to view for myself. That comment though would make it seem that Soarin' is staying.

On the other hand I would be VERY pleased if they DID overhaul the Canadian Pavilion. :teeth:

I'm not so sure that it will be "Florida".

The ONLY reason it was "Soarin' Over California" (and not the USA) in the first place, is that it was part of "Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure", the sister park to Disneyland (built on DL's former PARKING LOT, actually).
Originally, Disney was going to build a park there called "WESTCOT" (think "West Coast Epcot") but the locals in Anaheim would not allow it. (Too much traffic and disruption already.)

So... Disney had to come up with a NEW "theme" that would appeal to the locals... and DCA was born. And "Soarin' (Over California") turned out to the break-out HIT of the entire new park!

But, now that Soarin' is a huge success (on BOTH coasts) Disney will finally be able to create a film with more "wide appeal" rather than just localized to any single state.

So expect a change coming up. I'm just not sure of the timetable.

(And don't be too surprised if some of your favorite scenes and SMELLS are a part of the new show, too.)

Actually us locals here wanteds Westcot, not DCA, but Michael Eisner decided that "it cost too much money" so it was scaled back, modified and eventualy became DCA. Traffic and congestion around Disneyland has been reduced to almost nothing due to Freeway expansions and such. Once DCA is built up a bit we are supposed to be getting a third park out here, maybe we can convince them to finally build westcot now that Esiner is gone, he was the one that stopped it, don't assume that it was the locals, who wouldn't even be living there if it weren't for Disneyland in the first place, this whole are, including up and into LA would be a lot different if Disneyland had never been built, it was there first, so the residents that do complain can go pound sand, they knew wqhat they were getting into moving in near a theme park, now if some Orange Groves start complaining, then that might be a different story, seriously though, there aren't that many peope complaing about noise, traffic and such, it's just that the news focuses on them more. I would love to see Florida have a Soarin' over the USA and France to perhaps Soarin' over Europe or some such thing, perhaps each park around the world getting thier own version.

I'm reasonably certain they're changing the film, probably to showcase the entire country. Just a guess, but maybe they'll start with the Statue of Liberty and end with the current shots of Disneyland?

i sure hope not, i want to ride it in december lol
