I recently booked my DV for Dec. 2008 and asked my AAA TA, to book me in a value season for 2008 possibly December. She informed me that not many people know about this yet but Disney is doing away with "value, regular, peak and all other seasons" they are going to have just the rates. I didn't quite believe her and asked her again and also told her I can book it on-line as a value season. She said that I was right for now, I can, but that Dis is changing their system for 2008 and doing away with seasonal rates and having just the rates per room type and no discounted seasons. You know, I hope I am understanding all of this right and am asking anyone else if this is correct information. I could have misunderstood the whole thing. :confused3

I think she is not explaining that right. The way I understand it, they will charge each night at it's own seasonal price when calculating the entire package. So if night #1 is value, but the rest of your trip falls during peak, you will be charged value price for one night and peak for the rest.

Right now you would get the price of the first night for the whole week.

Someone erroneously reported that you will have to book multiple packages, but that is not correct. They will just be using each night's price to calculate your package.

I hope I explained that right, and that it is still the correct info.

Thank you! I have heard your explanation before through the boards. I totally understood it. Your right I may have heard her wrong and she may have been explaining your senario. I knew about it for some time now but I really thought she was saying they were going to do away with all seasons. Thanks for explaining this matter to me. "few"!!!:scared:

Glad I could help. We're not going next year, so I haven't been paying as close attention, but I thought I had that one figured out.

If I'm mixed up I hope someone speaks up! LOL

Happy planning!

In the past, the seasons were flat ratel, i.e., during value season you would book a room and the room would be $xx.xx per night regardless of when during that season you booked. That is changing with the new pricing structure. So, for example, if the period between Thanksgiving weekend and the weekend before Christmas has typically been value season, and all priced the same, now you may see prices that are different on a daily or weekly basis, but they will still be less than the rates during regular or peak season. There may be higher rates during some days or weeks of each season, but the rates may fall within a certain range. This is the way it is with most hotels (I know from previous experience that Marriott and Hilton are definitely this way). AAA may just be trying to make it easier on their reps by changing how they are presenting the product to their customers, because if they present it as "value season" or "regular season" it has the connotation of the old pricing structure, where every day in the season is priced the same. It will all just take a little getting used to (like we did with the MYW tickets).

My travel agent told me about there not being seasons also. That they are booking per night and the rate depends on what nights you are staying. Since I have heard it also, it might be something that is actually going to happen.

Sounds to me that AAA TA's just don't understand Disney's new policy. I'm pretty sure once year's rates/seasons are released they are written in stone. I think the only thing that chances increase in a calender year are ticket prices. I could be wrong though.

To the best of my knowledge, they are keeping the 'seasons' but within the 'season's they will be charging more for Fri/Sat nights. Most hotels/resorts charge more for those nights anyway, so it makes sense for Disney to follow suit. Especially when you think of how many DVC owners there are that don't like to use excessively high Fri/Sat night points, so stay at a 'regular' resort for those two nights and then move to their DVC resort on Sunday.
