Is this the best way to do tickets?

Hi everyone

We're going to POR next June for 16 nights, we've already got length of stay passes so we're sorted for Disney. We want to do Discovery Cove and all the Universal group parks as well so my thoughts on buying the tickets is:

Book Discovery Cove and take the 7 days access to Busch Gardens (even thought we'll only visit once)

Then

Buy the 14 day 4 Park Universal/IOA/Seaworld/WetnWild tickets.

That way I think we get to do all the parks at the cheapest price. I'm looking at orlando-ticket-deals to buy the tickets from, saving more money, if I can book specific Discovery Cove dates (or do they just allocate you a date during your stay) and do they send you actual tickets?

Is this the best way to do it or does anyone else have any better ideas?

Also, can I buy my tickets now for next year as the dollar rate is reasonable?

Thanks

If you book your discovery cove tickets via the DC website, you can pick the day you actually want to visit.
When you book you can opt to pay in full, or pay a deposit.

I think the other tickets you have picked might be abit excessive. Best thing to do, is sit down and work out a rough plan of what you want to do on what days, you might find you can get away with a different ticket combination, thus saving yourself some money.

I think you're going to have too many ticket options and spend more money than you need to. With your plan you're looking at $179 per adult, plus your Disney tickets plus your DC tickets. In total I think you'd have ticket "days" totaling 37 days for a 16 day trip.

I wouldn't count/plan on using W+W as , IMHO Disney's waterparks are FAR superior. If you're only planing to visit BG once I would take the SW with the DC tickets (you can then use them over 2 or 3 days mixed in with shopping days. A few hours in the park and a few hours shopping). BG I would leave as a trip to make if you find you have the energy, time, money and inclination towards the end of the trip. You can't combine it with any other excursion so you'd really have to set aside a whole (long) day for it.
For Universal I'd look at the UK resident special they are offering 7 days for the price of 2. It's only $99 and with your week at SW with DC gives you 14 days coverage at $80 per person cheaper. https://tickets.universalstudios.com/USRG/us_store_secure2.jsp?merchant=ukresident . Again having that number of access days it allows you to use it in combination with other activities like shopping or pool/waterpark days.

With the amount of time you look like you're wanting to spend away from Disney, I'm not sure the Unlimited Magic tickets are the best value for you. Even with the changes I've suggested you're still having 30 days of ticketing for a 16 day trip. I would suggest looking at your Disney ticketing and if it's possible to alter them you may find a 5,6 or 7 day hopper plus tickets gives you enough Disney coverage for less than you're paying for the Unlimited Magic ticket.

I don't think you have enough time to cover all that you're hoping to, while I like BG as a park (it's one of my favourites) I think it's the easiest to drop from your schedule, and add it in as a day trip if you find you have time. IMHO it's uneconomical to buy more tickets than you're ever going to use, plus leaving some attractions unvisited gives you an excuse to come back again next year :D

Thanks for the advice, I haven’t counted any cost for the Unlimited Access tickets as we got such a good price on the holiday the unlimited access was free, therefore it doesn’t matter how much we do or don’t do Disney. We also tend to do more than one park per day, (our record is 4 parks plus a game of Fantasia Crazy Golf!) which is why I was looking at a Flex ticket to give us the flexibility to park hop. I hadn’t thought about adding up the actual ticket days. Maybe I should extend my holiday to match the number of ticket days LOL!!! This is going to take a lot more planning; I feel the need to make a list, or two, or three!

Why not upgrade your DC tickets to the 14day SW & BG option and buy the US/IoA 7 days for the price of 2 tickets.
I think it will work out cheaper and you can stick to the Disney Water parks.

Yours

Daniel
