Is this tacky?

I'm 40, but I'd love if I could dress up all spiffy in nice prince regalia. (a Disney prince, not the purple guy )

:rotfl: I couldn't help but imagine someone walking through MK as the purple guy. Too funny!

OP, I'll be interested to hear what you decide. I've seen those gowns, and think they are far prettier than some of the Disney branded dress up clothes I've seen in places like Wal-Mart. When my DD was interested in wearing princess dresses I would have let her wear one of those gowns. Over the years we've gotten three gowns from the World of Disney, and each one she has wanted to ditch after an hour of wearing it in the parks...even with a t-shirt and shorts underneath to help with the itchiness.

I say YES:goodvibes I think we spend too much time worrying about the little things in life. As long as they aren't showing any body parts that are inappropriate, go for it. Cherish the special moments that you have with your children.

I say let your girls dress up as they want and have fun doing it! As a mom of 2 little princesses, if my daughters thought their nightgowns were pretty enough to double as princess dresses then I'd let them wear 'em!! Disney is for everyone...including little girls with dreams bigger than their fashion sense! :rotfl: As long as nothing is too short, too revealing, too "raunchy" for a little girl to wear then my opinion is it's as as perfect as the little darling that is wearing it! :flower3:

If your children want to wear them then the obvious answer is yes :) I bet they will be gorgeous. The point of Disney is to be a child, stay a child, never grow old :) so let your children! they will look gorgeous! (ps. i always wear nighties down town- but they look like long t-shirts. disney ones like:])

My MIL was meeting us at Chef Mickey one night with my nephew's little girl. They lived locally at the time. She was so excited that she bought my DD and the other little girl matching princess dresses. Yep, you guessed it. They were actually nightgowns. She asked to change them in the bathroom at the Contemporary. MIL never does this kind of thing and she was super excited. I didn't have the heart to tell her they were nightgowns. And you know what, no one said a word. The girls were super excited in their matching Cinderella "dresses". The pictures are adorable.

Go and have fun OP. This is vacation and odds are that you will never see these people again. If your kid wants to wear a nice nightie (and they are nice) to dinner, have fun! Life is too short. It's not like you are taking them in string bikinis. :goodvibes

If you and your kids sat next to me, I'd know (and my DD won't do it but she's just like that) but I honestly would NOT care. Are they wearing clothing - appropriately covered? HAVE FUN!
I have seen some INTERESTING clothing at Disney little girls in nightdresses won't push me over the edge! LOL!
Enjoy!

Who cares if its tacky as long as your girls are having save wonderful vacation. As a mom of 3 girls ( now teenagers lol)who would have loved to have even princess nightgowns for my girls at that age; I'd say go for it! Your little girls will have such a more memorial MAGICAL experience and memory. It doesn't seem like the nightGOWNS are see-through so i wouldn't have a problem with it. ( even if they were, i'd just put light weight shorts and tanks underneath)

Have fun on YOUR vacation and let the rest of the ppl do their vaca's their way and leave yours alone! lol

I don't see anything tacky about the sample picture early on in this post; looks just like the costumes I see girls in so I wouldn't know the difference if I saw them in a restaurant. I'm not sure wearing this could "mortify" anyone as an earlier poster said.

I agree with the previous post; as long as they are having fun and you approve of the attire, who gives a rip what anyone else thinks? When I'm dining, I'm hardly concerned about what the little kids are wearing...I'm just enjoying watching them have fun!

They aren't tacky. They look like dresses. Do what you want and enjoy your trip.

I think they're beautiful. (actually too pretty to sleep in!!!) I thought that the Disney Store should make more like them and label them as costumes!!!
I say.......go for it!!

These are really cute - I'm going to get my dd one and maybe let her wear it to MNSSHP. IMO It would only be tacky if they were also using them to sleep in :lmao: (but then, you did say you have to pack light)

Those are adorable and they will look great! How is it any more crazy to have a little one in an elaboratly chiffoned nightgown than an elaboratly chiffoned costume? I mean, do people get crazy about letting their daughters wear a costume to dinner when it isn't Halloween at WDW? Then why would it be any more tacky to wear an elaborate nightgown to dinner at WDW?:confused3
And honestly, I have several sundresses that were purchased in the sleepwear section of stores. You would never know they were nightgowns - they have shelf bras just like sundresses, are usually made of even softer cotton than sundresses, are opaque like sundresses, adjustable, comfortable straps and come in super cute stripes and prints. I've also worn coverups that are opaque as dresses and so have my friends. I have never had anyone say anything other than compliment them but I also could care less if they did say anything. I mean, what is the difference besides what the tag might say when I bought it? Same material, same coverage, same style - it's just clothes!:rotfl:

I know! It's all tacky, especially that Bibbidi place where they slick the girls hair into a bun. I mean, how much more tacky can you get than that right? But, I say have fun and who cares what other people say. I proudly wear my tacky mouse ears around the parks and I'm an adult. A little girl in a nightgown/costume is normal attire in Disneyworld.

OP here again. Tonight was the princess/stepsister dinner, and yes, my DDs both wore their nightgowns/gowns. They looked adorable, and didn't want to change out of them after the meal. Several castmembers told them how pretty they looked, and they felt special, I think. Glad we went for it! We saw many girls there who had been BBB'd, and they did not look very comfortable, and the dresses did not look markedly different, either.

The easy part? Not having to change them when we got home into PJs! Tucked 'em in in their royal gowns. I'll try to post pics tomorrow. princess:

Glad they had a great time! Like I said, I'm sure it was no different than other kids wearing make believe princess dresses - costumes or nightgowns - all looks the same to me! Can't wait for pictures!!princess:

I'm glad it all worked out! I always hate to see girls in those princess dresses because the dresses look so uncomfortable. I get itchy just looking at them! I'm glad your girls got the best of both worlds - comfortable and cute!

Looking forward to the pictures. So glad it all worked out. I was one of those thinking that if you hadn't said the night gowns were night gowns, I would have thought they were dress up gowns or costumes or just regular dresses. I think the night gowns were very cute and I'm sure your girls looked cute in them.

I'm glad you let them wear them! Sure they may look a tad like nightgowns, but many dresses probably do. I'm sure many kids have "unacceptable looks" at Disney World. Dried mickey premium bars on their shirts, mismatched socks, messy hair, etc. But who has the time or energy to judge a child while on vacation with their own? If you worry too much about what others think, you don't have enough time to live in the moment!

Glad they had a wonderful time and felt good in their costumes.

I have never bought a disney nightgown that you couldn't see thru to the underwear. If that is the case, I would say no. I would be more concerned with the germ factor. No way would I want my kids in those things and them going back to the hotel and sleeping in them. Yuck.

Yay!!!

So glad it turned out to be a hit for your girls and you as well!!! :goodvibes

Pics would be awesome!
