Is this tacky? Birth announcement / X-mas card

You and I are alike, in that announcements don't feel like a gift request at all. I'd figure that many others are like that as well, and just send 'em.
I don't think of birth announcements as a gift request either. I consider it a chance for the proud parents to show off their adorable baby! Everyone loves a picture of a squishy newborn to hang on their fridge. ;)

Our son was born late Oct and we still need to send out a birth announcement. It is going to end up around the same time we will send X-mas cards. Is it tacky to put both photo cards in one envelope to save on time (addressing them) & postage?

We can't do 1 card for both b/c they don't give you enough room or text. Plus, the X-mas card will be a picture of both kids, where the birth announcement picture will be only my son.

Opinions?

DO IT!! :goodvibes

I don't see a problem with it and wouldn't be offended if I recieved something like that, but to me they are unrelated and should be treated as such. And I can't imagine sending Christmas cards OR birth announcements to nearly 100 people! Our Christmas card list is like 30-35.

I've been kind of wondering the same thing about enclosing something that is obviously my oldest son's senior picture along with our cards this year. I don't plan on sending graduation announcements later so this would be a way to get his pictures out. We do usually send a picture, but this would be an extra picture of just him - obviously a senior picture. I specifically don't want people to think they have to send a gift.

Have done this twice and everyone loved it. For my second, I put him in a stocking with only a diaper on and had by daughter holding him. Unfortunately this is pre-digital and I can't post the picture.
You can always put a picture of just the new baby on the inside and have the text on the other page so your second still has his "own" announcement.

I think it's an aforable idea. I got mine from Vistaprint. I hink they had Christmas cards/announcements. :)

As far as the quote below, I turned Ben's birth announcements into thank you notes by writing a heartfelt thanks on the back. (Vistaprint glso prints on the back, I got DS's name and a scroll-y border.)

I don't think of birth announcements as a gift request either. I consider it a chance for the proud parents to show off their adorable baby! Everyone loves a picture of a squishy newborn to hang on their fridge. ;)

Send out both! It's always nice to receive a birth announcement and not tacky at all. It's never been expected to send a gift after getting an announcement and I've never sent one. I also think they make great keepsakes. (I sent out my second child's birth announcement when she was almost 6 months old!)
