Is this still park policy?

We will be visiting WDW June 11-22. We are *hoping* that the Mine Train will be open by then. We've been planning our FP+ and I am worried that the mine train will be so busy that we will waste a day waiting for it. Then, it occurred to me in times past for rides like Soarin' as long as we were in line by park closing, we could ride. So, if the park closes at 11pm, and we got in line at 10:45pm, do you think they will still honor that policy? I guess I'm worried that since it's a new ride they might change things.

Yes. There is no way this will change because of one new hot attraction.

That's actually a really clever way to wait in line without taking time out for other attractions. :)

Interesting, never thought about this before. Does make sense to honor it though and not make guests angry.

Unless the line is already a Hr long. Then you would still have to wait that long.

Nope. Rides have always been if you are in line before closing you get to ride.

Entertainment like meet and greets will stop admitting guests prior to the time they leave but rides you are there until the last guest rides.

The standby lines usually go 10x faster after the park closes, since there are no FP'ers getting "dibs", so to speak…so, that wait time of an hour that is posted may not necessarily be an hour. I've done this at TSMM before - hopped into line 15-minutes before closing…it had a 90-minute posted SB wait, but we were through the ride in 20 minutes. It was pretty sweet. :)

They have never changed this policy in all the years new attractions have opened, there is no reason they would do it now.

They may even keep it open later. I've heard that Soarin sometimes stays open until 10:00 during busy times.

THIS!! We hopped in line to TSMM within 5 min of closing, my DD says 'but mom there's a 90 minute wait :crazy2:". I said "no, that's just what they tell people so you won't head over to get in line" we waited about 15 min. I concur it was S-W-E-E-T.

Something does "magically" occur after park closing to clear a line. I can't quite put my finger on it for each attraction, but it's worth doing.

That's a great policy. I'm glad I found out about that.

At a different theme park, I once qued for 30 minutes at a ride with a 15 minute posted wait. Park close came and they just dumped the queue. I was so mad.

Even if you do have to wait an hour, you're not missing out on other things during that hour (except maybe waiting in line for the bus/monorail). Of course, the rub is that some families would be riding with sleeping kids which kind of defeats the purpose.

Sorry...that was me. Too many churros and turkey legs. :tiptoe:

That's a great point.

I'm thinking I read stories about Radiator Springs Racers at DCA being open into the wee hours of the morning because of the people who got in line right before park closing.

This is a smart strategy, but just doesn't work for us since we do rope drop every day and I would never last.

But I think all the changes are going to make the rope drop, afternoon break, back to park until close strategy a must for Disney veterans. None of us want to wander from a 60-minute wait at Pirates to a 75-minute wait at IASW while the parks are most crowded in the afternoon. So getting there early and staying late may be mor doable if you cut out the middle third of your day in the park.

...... which is why I could end up staying with DLR for a while. I've tried the afternoon break before, and it really doesn't matter. I never fall asleep, and I'm still just too tired later at night.

Q.... did anyone ever have trouble catching a bus after the park closes? I know the busses run an hour after but wondering if you are rushing or if anyone missed the bus system and if so what did you do? TIA

You will never be stranded at a WDW park. Period. in the unlikely event that buses have stopped running when you get to the exit, WDW transportation will still get you to your onsite hotel or car. If you arrived via offsite shuttle or drop-off they will arrange a cab for you, but at your expense.
