Is this smooshy?

Interesting. While the building appears very clear...the sky looks like it is made of blue bricks.

Ok, did you set the pixels in the software or did you find out by checking properties after it was saved?

I agree, the quality doesn't look as good in that photo.

Try removing the custom scaling at 50% and make it 100% and try making it 400 x 300 pixels, which is half of the physical size of 800 x 600 pixels.

But keep the resolution at 100 dpi.

Al..something is soo wrong. I did what you said, but after it scanned it showed different settings....totally different than what I saved as.
I'm getting cranky, lol.

Ok, the smooshy is back like you said.

Are you using the software to start the scan, or the buttons?

If you want to quit for today, I can understand.

Right now I am using the button. Using the software doesn't give me any more options..I checked that out last night.

I'm starting to feel bad for taking up your time with this.
There is no law that says I have to post pics, lol.

Sorry for the delay, I was distracted and didn't notice there was a new page added.

No law, but that's probably one of the reasons you bought a scanner.

I don't mind about the time, unless you don't think we have a chance for success.

There's definitely something not quite correct about the way your pics come out and I think we're on the right track. It's pretty difficult because I don't have the same type of scanner and software and I can't see your screen, but there's still hope.

Have you tried looking for a tutorial section under the 'help' option in your software? Mine has a section for 'Scanning Tips' as well as for individual topics, like changing the scan settings, etc.

Want to call it a day for now?

I checked the HP Website and looked under HP Scanjet 4200C and I found an article that has inofrmation about improving the quality of a scanned image and what resolutions to use for specific types of images and for specific uses of the images. It also shows how to change the software settings to improve the image quality. It specifically states that if you use a setting that is too high, it could result in images that are wavy, fuzzy, or out of focus. To me, it just means they just don't know how to spell SMOOSHY, yet! :D

Here's a link to the article on the HP Website: HP Scanjet 4200C Website Info

I also found out that there is a new issue of the LT Precision Scan Software, it's version 2.02 that came out on 5/22/01. If you bought your scanner anywhere near or before that time, it might be worthwhile to download the new version. Unfortunately, it is 31.88 Mbs so unless you have a cable modem, it might take quite a while to download. You could also order a new cd from HP with the software and drivers on it for $10.65, incl shipping.

I think the article should help, let me know if it does. It sounds just like what we're trying to accomplish.

Thanks so much for not giving up on me Albiats.:)

I'll do some additional reading and play around more with the settings.

I got this scanner in May 2000.
I have DSL...so downloading the new version shouldn't be too bad.
If playing with my current software does not bring improved results..I will check out that new version.
They definitely need to incorporate the word "smooshy" into those tutorials. I don't know the proper computer lingo for ANYTHING, lol.

Until you stepped in here I never thought to do anything with the settings, it seemed that HP was adjusting them for me and I assumed they were being set for best possible results.
So, thanks so much for enlightening me. I'm sorry I was not very good at explaining things...I stink at that.:D

I won't leave you hanging, I'll update you if there is a breakthrough.

Thanks again for everything! :) :) :) :) :)
