My stepdaughter due date for her second child is on Tuesday the 29th. Well a week ago her and her doctor decided to induce, and she is not having a C-Cection. 7:00 pm monday night. I was talking to a friend about it and she said that it is wrong for doctors to do the something about ethics. I also think is is strange. I know pregnancy is no fun and she wants the baby out, but that should be up the the baby and her body. I keep updating this to help answer any questions. Here is more updates ,

the baby is in the right positon,
no diabetes,
no high blood pressure.
no c-section.
not past due date, due date is the next day.

She is only 22 her second child
first one she had at age 16 everything was normal except her age.

she is over wieght and so was I when I had my second one

She worked as a cleaner (which I didnt like with the chemicals.) and she went on materinty leave like 2 weeks ago.

Is she past her due date? If she is how far? Is the baby too big?

in two days the 29th of July which is a tuesday and they want to induce Monday the 28th, and the baby three weeks ago was 6 pounds. No signs of contractions and two weeks ago she was only 1 centameter.

The doctor seems flacky from what I hear. My daughter lives in Michigan and Im in SD. Her first Ultra sound the doctor said the Placenta wasnt in the right position and if she starts to spot to go on bed rest. then she had another ultrasound a month later and the placenta was were it should be. then a month and a half ago she said the baby was 10 pound so when the doctor said that they did another ultrasound. and then the baby was now 6 pounds.

Unless there is something medically wrong with the mother or the baby, it is unethical in my opinion. The body is a wonderful especially when you are pregnant. There are usually reasons why the baby should "cook" a little bit longer. I went a week past my due date and I wanted the DD out also! BTW I was not induced.

Maybe the baby was breached and they weren't expecting it to turn so a c section was originally scheduled? Maybe that changed as of her last check up allowing her to give a ******l birth, but the doctor is still concerned with something and wants to get it out as soon as possible by inducing? How's her blood pressure? Is she suffering from any pregancy related diabetes or pre-aclampsia?

Ugh.. I got bleeped. Well it said vagin*l with an a. There. Did that work?

no problems with blood pressure baby is in the right position.

But according to her first post, she's NOT having a c-section. A C-section or being induced would make sense if there was a medically nescesity

??Was that to me? Maybe I misunderstood, but I read it to mean she was originally having a c-section but instead is being induced?

It might be me. I've read it several times, and I might still be reading it wrong. It might be time for me to head off for bed here in a minute.:o

to have c-section. and none was ever planned. It was discussed when the doctor thought the baby was 10 pounds, but then she had an ultra sound to conferm or deny that and according to the ultra sound the baby was 6 pounds like two weeks

ah, gotcha. I thought when you said she's being induced not a c-section it meant taking place of... my bad :(

He didn't give her ANY reason at all for inducing???

Oh. Just thought of something ( I used to intern in Labor and Delivery)...

Since you mentioned the baby being only 6 lbs, there are a lot of times they will induce labor if the baby is not growing properly and at 6 lbs that is a possibility.

like a month ago

so I dont know what is in now but couldnt the baby pack on the pound in the last month and a lot of babies are 6 pounds. (just wondering)

Yes, the baby definitely had time to gain a little weight, but there is the possibility it hasn't which is cause for concern that it's not developing and that would lead to a dr. recommending induction. It's really odd though that the dr. hasn't told your step-daughter his reasons for doing so.

was my daughter idea. because she keeps complaining about being pregnant. and i thinks she was it out. but how can a doctor agree to that?/

Honestly, I don't know. It completely depends on the current state of the babies health. Tomorrow (well today now :)) is only one day away from her due date, and I wouldn't say it's uncommon to be induced. Usually before labor even starts, the woman is already starting to become dialated. It's possible she is currenty showing no signs of dialation which could mean a pregnancy past the due date so they want to induce. And induction is certainly not considered unethical in the medical world.

to have the baby at convince it is like setting up a dinner date. and Im not that old my youngest turned 5 on sunday. and I got induced but i was a week past my due date and my blood pressure shot up high side was 181. still to this day dont know the reason. I even got amblanced to a hosiptal over over 60 miles away. my doctor told me he wasnt a gambler and didnt want to take chances...

And it's probably similar with your step daughter. Normally a mother to be can't just go in and say "I'm sick of it! Schedule me for 10 am next Thursday!" There is usually some medical reason (diabetes, pre-aclampsia, high blood pressure, under or overweight baby, going past due date) the doctor will agree or recommend this. I myself only interned, I'm not a Dr., and I don't know their current health situation. But based on the info you've provided I'd say the doc is concerned by the babies weight or he feels she's going to go past the due date. Hope this helped some!

edited to stress the words normally and usually, because although not completely unheard of, it is not exactly a regular occurance

Actually, I've known several woman who were induced for non-emergency reasons. One was because the doctor was going on vacation and the woman wanted that doctor and not an associate to do the delivery. Others were done because of suspected large babies (did not turn out that way) or simply because the woman was ready and the baby was full term.

Is it RIGHT? It's not my choice, but I don't see anything unethical about it as long as there are no health risks to the mother and child. I do know of women whose inductions did not "take" that ended up with both natural births later or a c-section.

All the best to your stepdaughter! :)
