Ok, I fly into BWI to get to RDU on Thursday. Is this right? I have to get my luggage and then go all through security again? To get a connecting flight to RDU???

Making a Connection through BWI is Easy!

We've made it easy to find a connecting flight through BWI. With approximately 70 destinations and 350 nonstop departures, we can get you to where you need to go. Here’s how.

Use our Changing Planes tool. Select your date of travel and arrival time. The tool will automatically provide all the nonstop departure flights available. (Please allow at least two (2) hours to make the connection.)

Once you have booked your connection, getting in and out of BWI is easy. Simply follow these 6-steps:

Step 1 Arrive at BWI
You will arrive on the Upper Level
Step 2 Pick-up your luggage at the Baggage Claim
Baggage Claim is located on the Lower Level
Baggage Carts are available for $3.00 in the domestic terminal.
In the international arrivals area, there is no charge for carts.
Step 3 Check in with the appropriate Airline for your Connection
Airline Check-in is on the Upper Level
Step 4 Go through the appropriate Security Checkpoint
Step 5 Eat. Drink. Shop. Relax.
Step 6 Go to your gate, board your connecting flight, depart BWI

ALLOW TWO HOURS

I don't have a 2 hour layover? Help!

I've done 20+ domestic connection flights in the past 2 or 3 years. I rarely check bags when flying for work, but have never had to go though security again. I have flown out of, but never though BWI though.

I'd pick up the phone and check on it :).

Are you connecting with the same or with a different airline? Same airline you can just check your luggage through to your final destination.

Different airline you might have to get your luggage, check it with your second airline and then back through security. DON'T CHECK LUGGAGE, you'll probably need at least 2 hours and the second airline doesn't owe you anything if you miss the flight.

For any "normal" flight, you wouldn't pick up your luggage. Those steps sound like something you would follow for a charter or some other unusual type of transportation. What airlines are you flying?

Yes, I am flying SWA the whole trip Albany to BWI to RDU so am I right in thinking that I just check my luggage at Albany, fly into BWI, and just go to the other gate?

CORRECT, SW doesn't do interline baggage transfers. What you're reading is what you'd have to do if you were connecting with a different airline.
