Is this really too difficult?

We are planning our first trip to the World Jan 2011 with our five children (ages 9,6,4,2,18 months). I am trying to plan where I would like to make ADRs. We are staying off-site and will have our own car. We are NOT buying park hopper passes. We are also not getting any dining plan. Most days I plan on eating breakfast at the house and lunch once we get back for our afternoon rest.

I for sure want to make ADRs in Epcot to eat the breakfast with the Princesses. Is it too much of pain to try to eat some of the other character meals at the resorts? How easy is it really to get to the other resorts and then go back to your theme park?

JMO but I think one character meal is plenty for your kids, they are great but can tend to take up lots of time and with younger kids I know that can become more difficult.

The princess breakfast is a great choice and if you want to do another I think you would enjoy The Crystal Palace in MK, breakfast is my favorite but we have enjoyed lunch and dinner as well. Since I imagine you will be in MK for at least one day during your trip you could incorporatqe the dining ADR into that day without having to spend too much time on travel. HTH

Just hop on the resort monorail.

You can also eat at Crystal Palace in MK if you want to see Pooh and friends.

There are a lot of character meals in the parks if you don't feel like leaving.

We have 5 kids too, but only had 4 on our last trip. It's not hard at all, actually. We didn't do hoppers or dining plan last time either. If you stick with the monorail resorts, it's really easy. That would be Chef Mickey's, Ohana's, 1900 Park Fare, etc. Also, you can take a boat from some of the parks to certain resorts. There are quite a few options. When we went 3 yrs ago, the kids were 8, 6,5, and 2. We did not go back to our condo for breaks. Once we were at the park, we stayed because it is a LOT of work to leave and go back.

As stated Crystal Palace in the MK is great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. When we eat there we try to do a late lunch. This usually keeps us full for the remainder of the day except maybe for a Mickey Ice Cream Bar or some popcorn while watching the nighttime parade.

I know you said you wanted breakfast in the room and that is a great idea. Waiting for lunch until you get back to the room might be somewhat difficult. With 5 children, it might be too difficult to get everyone to leave the park to go back to your room, and then you have to fix lunch and clean up from lunch. You might want to stay in some of the parks in the afternoon. The MK has as great afternoon parade as well as the AK and DHS. We love the one in the AK. There are plenty of great counter service places to eat in the parks. Alot depends on how hot it is and how tired you children are. Having your own car is a huge help.

We like to eat the breakfast buffets for 2 reasons: everybody loves breakfast foods and they are cheaper. I like to get the last time for breakfast around 10:30 and make it our lunch. You usually won't get seated until close to 11:00 and if you're at the parks at rope drop then everyone will be hungry. This will last us until late evening (dinner). Our faves are CP, CM, and 1900 Park Fare.

It is not so much the character meals from the resort, it will be more difficult to travel to and from the parks for the afternoon rest.

Our dds (8,5) like the character meals as it allows them interaction time without really waiting in a line, they get pictures taken (autographs in the past) and a place to sit down and rest for awhile. The MK resorts are a short and fun monorail ride from the park, so that gives you 1900 Park Fare and CM for dinner. Epcot does have Akershus (princesses) and Garden Grill (Chip n Dale, Pluto, Mickey) that are options as well and you would not have to leave the park. Good luck in planning and have a great trip.

Thanks everyone! I am thinking 2 Character Meals will definitely be enough.
