Is this possible?

There is a chance we have to cancel our trip with only three days out. I've already checked in. Can I still cancel? What happens to my points? Do I lose them? What a mess!:sad1:

I don't think the online check-in will have any affect on the cancellation policy. As long as you cancel at least one day before your scheduled arrival, your points should go into "holding" status, meaning they can not be banked, and can only be used for reservations with a check-in date 60 days or less between booking and check-in.

Depending upon the circumstances of your cancellation, MS may be able to make other adjustments.

Call MS first thing tomorrow and explain your situation.

This is a example of how important your UY is. Even if your points are in holding, if not used before your next UY, you will forfeit the points.

They'll go in holding and if you cancel the day of check in you'll lose one day. Not sure about early check in and how that will affect things but it's possible it could cause you to lose all points now and almost certainly will on the day of check in. I agree, I'd call immediately as soon as they open tomorrow. OTOH, I don't believe DVC should be making exceptions based on personal circumstances but only for system issues like the Hurricanes. However, they have at times in the past and you may want to ask if they will for you in this situation.

I asked about the canceling on the day of check in once and was told that it would be all points for the entire ressie that were lost!? I found it difficult to believe but when I questioned it they said all. One day makes much more sense especially considering if you can cancel even one day early you don't lose any points.

The member website says this: "Cancelling a reservation on the check-in date:
All the Vacation Points used to make the reservation will be forfeited."

Am I misunderstanding or have there been times when exceptions have been made?

Thanks so much for all the answers. Catastrophe was averted and looks like we'll be ok to go. The thought of risking points was pretty scary, not to mention having to deal with flight changes.

It was previously the other way and there was a time when there was no penalty on the day of check in.

Great, I'm glad it worked out.
