Hi, I'm a sophomore at ucf majoring in Hospitality Management and got an email about Disney internships I was excited until I started reading that a lot of them required you to be a CP graduate (is that how you would put it?). I go to school full time and don't want to take a year off to do CP because I'm afraid I'll lose my scholarship. My question is is it possible to be in CP and still go to school? TIA!

If the particular one you are applying for lists having completed a CP before then I would imagine that it is probably required.

However if it does not list CP as a requirement then you wouldn't necessarily have to have completed one, however I am fairly sure that if somebody else who HAD completed a CP was to apply that Disney would choose the person with prior experience before they would somebody without.

Hope that makes sense, and I am not certain about this but its what I would imagine would happen.

It would be really hard and almost impossible to be a CP and still go to school. During my CP my schedule changed every week and i went from 4 hour days to 15 hour days. They do offer classes there that you can pick from but i think u can only choose to take one or two. Your best chance would be to possibly get a part time job at disney and it might make up for the fact that u didnt do the CP. I know they have hired people who had not done the CP for PIs.
Hope this helps

As previous posters have said, it sounds like you'd be best to choose a PI that does not require the CP. For example, Rooms and Related Management does not require the CP, I believe.

BTW- If you did decide to do a CP, you would take one semester off of college, not an entire year, so maybe that would help your scholarship situation? That being said, doing the CP doesn't guarantee you the PI, so make sure you're doing the CP because you want the frontline experience. Good luck!

If you took a semester off to do the CP, you could earn credits while on the program. There are classes you can take while in Disney.
Or take online classes! That way you can do school on your own time.

I've heard over and over again, the CP is a really good to have if you want a PI. Talk to an advisor at your school! I've heard that some schools have advisors that just deal with disney internships! Seems like UCF would be a school that has credits for doing the internship...seeing as how it is so close. Your school would have more info about taking time off and your scholarship.

Hey, I go to ucf as well. Disney actually has a few special programs specifically for rosen students that they offer as an alternative to the CP. I know they have both a lodging one and a food and beverage one. They allowed you to work part time, live in your own housing, and all that good stuff. They usually just recruit for them on campus, I know the rep at the job fair almost always has info about them. I don't know if casting will have any info though since it is such a small program. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Im also a sophomore at UCF. I believe Rosen is a lot closer to Disney than the main campus (where I am) so if you let your recruiter know you should be fine. Im an engineering major on the main campus so I'm just losing a semester and taking some gen eds online to boost up my gpa and making up for it over the summer. The CP is only one semester so you wont be losing a whole year. I'm sure there are a few hospitality classes online (or you can knock out some gen eds like I am) and make up for the rest in summer classes.

Does UCF offer online classes? I was taking classes through DeVry University, 1 on line and one on campus in the orlando location. I was in food and beverage and they gave me the time off that I needed for school.

Yes. UCF offers over 100 online classes.

Hi just wanted to say thanks for all the responses! I'm in the process of getting in touch with my advisor and will talk to him before I decide anything. But, the idea of CP and online class sounds like a good idea :) Anywho thanks again and have an awesome day!:thumbsup2

My daughter goes to UCF Rosen in Hospitality also - she did the CP though before she started there - but you do know you have the required three paid internships to do as part of your program. Even though its not the CP it will go a long way toward getting an PI.

Lots of kids doing the paid internships (for the UCF Hospitality degree) do them at Disney.
