In our experience it is possible.

Most recently at Spoodles, one in our party wanted the shrimp appetizer as her main course. No problem. Howeve, it came as a huge helping...much larger than the appetizer of shrimp that another ordered.

And in our days of doing the old Gold Key plan, it was never a problem.

I agree. Appetizers are often my favorite part of the meal!

To be clear, in the scenario BCV23 outlined, the patron got ONE appetizer in place of their entree course (plus, perhaps, also had another appetizer, for their appetizer course). I doubt you'd be able to get TWO appetizers in place of the entree, plus your original entree.

Regardless, either way, such substitutions aren't guaranteed, and you may or may not be able to make such a substitution. Ask your server whether it is possible.

You're right, Bicker. This was one appetizer in place of one entree. She also had an appetizer to start the meal. So two appetizers instead of one app and an entree.

And the double (or triple) size of the second appetizer was a complete surprise to us. I would never expect that and it has never happened to us before.

I missed the three appetizer part of the question. Sorry. And I agree with Deb....I don't think you could do that.

Many restaurants, particularly Italian restaurants with pasta dishes, will sell an entrée portion of an appetizer or even an appetizer portion of an entrée if you ask.

Just ask.
