ok with the price of gas the way it is dh and I were talking yesterday and wondered if it would be cheaper for us to just rent a car.

Here is what I am wondering if we can do:

Rent a car on May 12 (sometime in the evening to get it loaded)

Drive to WDW on May 13th and turn it in that evening

We won't need the car during our stay so we would rent another car on May 20th and turn it in back home in TN on the 21st in the morning hours.

Is this possible? Would it cost less to rent for the whole week??

We currently drive an Expedition and it is a GAS HOG!!!!!!!

All advice is welcome!!!

TIA!!!!

The big thing to consider is that you usually would have to pay drop-off charges for each of the one-way rentals. That could be a significant amount. It might be cheaper to rent a car for the entire week.

I agree with this.

Price out the two scenarios and see which works best. National and Alamo have locations on property at the Swan (or Dolphin, I don't remember) and at the Car Care Center near the MK. There is also another company located in one of the DtD resorts, but I don't remember which one.

Good Luck

I agree with the others ~ just play around with the different rental company websites and see what works out better. We were going to do 2 one way rentals to get us from MCO to WDW then to Port Canaveral for a cruise, then Port Canaveral to Universal to MCO to go home. It was cheaper to just rent the car for the whole 10 days and pay for parking at Port Canaveral (not to mention easier than doing two separate rentals). Check out www.mousesavers.com for codes for car rentals and see what works out best.

not all rental companies will even let you do this... pick up in one state and drop off in another.. so you will have to find one that does... we were going to do this a few years ago and it was very expensive and only found a few that would even let us do it

I agree that it may be cheaper, and will definitely be easier, to just rent the vehicle for the entire vacation. Usually the longer you rent a car, the less it costs per day to rent. This would allow you to just drop the car off at the place you rent from when you're done.

However, I'd do a little cost analysis to make absolutely sure that saving money on the gasoline mileage with a rental car will truly offset the cost of renting the vehicle in the first place.

Thanks a bunch for the info you guys and gals on these boards are so helpful!!!

I will do some research now!!!
