Is this normal for Travelocity?

I have never booked with them before. I am trying to schedule a non-stop flight from MCO to ORD. My choices for non-stop are American, United and US Air. They are all charging $422 plus tax and fees. Travelocity has me going up on American and home on United. It comes to $415 and includes all the fees. I just find it so strange that I am essentially booking 2 one way tickets since it is on two different airlines and it is cheaper than booking a round trip ticket with the airline directly. Is that the way Travelocity always works? Any issues booking through them?

We have done that a couple of times - 2 one way tix on different airlines. There was no problem at all. And double check each of those airlines websites to see if you can get those one way tix cheaper than going through Travelocity. You may not be able to, but it's worth a look.

Actually, the first time I booked 2 one way tix was through Cheap Tickets.com and everything worked well. The second time was just last month, but I booked them through AAA.

Orbitz does the same thing. I actually like that you can pick & choose a different airline & route if it is more convenient or cheaper. :thumbsup2

Also, some airlines, like US Airways I hope to never have to travel with again, if I can help it. OMG! They are out of Bizzarro World or something. A few of us were laughing about them on our flight, saying they owe us money back for what they consider "flight attending and customer service." :sad2:

I've done that many times on different online travel sites with no problem. Different airlines and sometimes different airports.

One thing to check before booking is...could you get those one way flights for the same cost directly through the airlines in question? While I have booked through most of the websites like that out there, if you don't have a compelling reason to do so AND can get the same rates, might as well go directly. Takes one phone call out of the way if there's an issue.

I was recently booking a flight for my MIL...a United codeshare flight on Asiana through Travelocity...I had some questions while trying to check her in online, and it would have been easier to just deal with the airline, but first I had to go through travelocity (who called United for me to find out they couldn't help) and then to Asiana (I didn't call them first b/c I didn't have the code THEY needed).

So you might as well check if you can book same prices directly!

I just love The Dis. You guys are so helpful. I swear I have looked at one-way tickets in the past and they were outrageous. i just booked directly with AA and United and saved $65. :cool1: Thanks!
