Is this normal for renting points?

We rented points for the first time with a rental agency (think one of the big ones) and it's been over a week since we paid our deposit and we still haven't received the confirmation number. The agency said that they were waiting for the owner to transfer the reservation, but it's been over a week and they haven't. This is for end of March, so pretty soon, and I'm worried and wondering if we should be making other arrangements.

Not unusual, but they (the rental agency) are holding the deposit. They wouldn't transfer it to the owner without the owner first making the changes to the reservation.

However, hold times for Member Services have been long lately. The owner of the points needs to call them to change the name on the reservation; it cannot all be done online.

Normally I would be worried but with all the dvc website outages and long wait times on the phone (made worse by outages) I wouldn't be too worried that the owner has had trouble doing it

Yes, I had read it needed to be done over the phone and have been assuming it comes down to the owner finding time to call and sit on hold; but sometimes worry gets the best of me!

I rented out 3 confirmed reservations last week. I transferred the reservation over to the new owners the same day. Each time there was a wait to talk to member services. A week sounds like a really long time. Maybe reach out to the broker and have them touch base with the owner.

We reached out Sunday, and their response was just "we're still waiting, we'll email you with an update when we have one and there is no timeline for transferring reservations". It felt a little like we were bothering them by asking. Haven't heard a peep since.

Edit: and it is a confirmed reservation, in case I forgot to mention it. They also heavily emphasized it is at the members convenience, not ours.

I agree with cvjw. A week sounds like a really long time to me, too.
Like I said, I'm a worry wart, but I would also have done it immediately just because thats the way I am, but I try to recognize not everyone is that way. We don't have our 60 days till the 25th, so I'm trying to extend some grace.

I agree a week seems long but since the broker didn’t think anything was amiss, I guess I’d give it through the long weekend before asking again. I’m sure it’s fine, but you shouldn’t have to wait indefinitely.

That's how I feel. I understand it being at the convenience of the member, but imo it's rather silly to treat the buyer as like "sorry we don't care how long you wait it's not our problem". Seems like they could set a reasonable timeline for the transfer process like within 14 days or something.

I also definitely struggling with feeling like I'm annoying the person/burdening them by continuing to follow up, especially as the company's response have been curt thus far, so I don't want to just harass them either.

I am sorry but I would not worry about the contact With them because you need to plan abs know for sure you have it.

Many confirmed bookings are a renter cancelling and the owner and agency agreeing to try to find a new occupant. But the owner is going to get paid either way, and if it's a long hold time, many owners may just nope right off to do the other things they need to do, like work, sleep, pet their cats.

Just kinda a reality. For the re-rents, the owner has very little skin left in the booking.
