Is this normal for an older dog?

We have a little old man. :lovestrucHe's an almost 11 year old Sheltie. He likes to nap, mostly. He will fetch a little if I hold onto the younger dog, who is a 1 1/2 year old Sheltie. The old man doesn't stand a chance if I don't. The puppy is annoying, trying to be near you all the time. The old man just hangs out. He'll lay by me on the floor but doesn't jump on the couch anymore. So, I guess what I am saying is, it seems normal to me.

Your pups are so cute! :goodvibes

OK, I'm bored at work so here are some pictures of my little old girl. :lovestruc

Here she is kissing DS when he was a baby. I love this picture - look at that face. :rotfl:

And here she is with her mama (me!) - please excuse my bloated look this was a few days before I had DS.

What a beautiful girl! The bottom picture she looks like she is smiling. Love that face!:)

My 9 yr old shih tzu is also like your dog. She would rather curl up on the couch or on a blanket and snooze the day away. She still has some spunk to her, she still will occasionally get a wild hair up her butt and chase one of our cats outside. :) When she was younger she would do the doggy zoom almost everyday.

I think they aren't really old yet just more mature! LOL

Your pictures are so cute! I agree with your mom. I have had 3 geriatric dogs so far (English Springer mix that lived to be 18, a Doberman that lived to 13, and my current elder, Cheyenne. She is a Dalmatian that will be 15 in August). They all slowed down significantly and spent most of the time sleeping after they got to be around 10. Until recently Cheyenne spent her days on the couch and her nights on my bed. Her arthritis has gotten too bad though and she prefers her big bed next to mine now. She still comes out when we get home at the end of the day though. She gets her kisses and hugs and then trundles back to bed.

We also have two Yorkies that are 5 and 3. I really think they keep her going some days. The encourage her to get up and go outside with them, and they actually watch out for her when she is outside. I know that she probably won't make it to her 15th birthday though and it makes me so sad. :sad1:

I have 2 dogs. One is a Cairn Terrier (Lucky) and she is about 10. Another is a Chiweenie (Bubba) and is about 5. Well, Lucky is always sleeping. I try to call her over for me to pet her or something and she just puts her head down and keeps walking to sleep under the bed. Whenever she is around, Bubba has to be directly next to her. I fear what will happen to his attachment issues when Lucky passes away :sad1::guilty:

If she is out of the room for 2 seconds, he crys.

Sorry I am just responding to these posts - my home computer is broken and typing out posts on my iPhone is a pain. :goodvibes

Thank you! That is my favorite picture of her. I love her puggy smile. :cloud9:

Exactly! Not old just mature. Your dog in your avatar is so cute! :goodvibes

I'm so sorry your Cheyenne is having a hard time. It is very sobering to see a beloved pet get older because you know your time with them is limited.

My other dog Farley is a Cairn Terrier!!! I love my Cairn Terrier - such a great breed. I would love to have a female Cairn someday. That's so sweet that your two dogs are so close. I think my 2 love each other, but they are very jealous of each other too.
