I was in a horrible car accident many years ago and suffered severe whiplash. Well it finally came back to haunt me with such extreme pain that it was disrupting all aspects of my life. Well I went to the chiropractor yesterday and she was very nice and gentle with no harsh forced adjustments. Well after I started to get such an extreme headache I couldn't stand it. The headach is still around and it is directly related to my neck because it gets worse when I stretch it. I am supposed to go back MOnday but I am wondering if I should call now or if this is a normal part of the recovery?
TIA

Not really. I take that as a sign that something was done incompletely or incorrectly.

I have been to PTs and to Chiros and while I may have been inflicted with pain at time of treatment--it doesn't stick around.

Did she take x-rays or have you had an updated exam on the condition of your neck?

I hate getting my neck adjusted, so I did PT for it for the longest time, but there is one sensation I get that I know I need an adjustment (kind of like when you feel like you need to crack your knuckles).

My old neck injury is similar to whiplash (from a jump from a high dive) and it has been a long road.

The only person who inflicted pain as you describe--was a crappy PT who told me pain is good. I have since learned that the pain HE inflicted was not. I have since had much better treatment since then.

Chiro usually relieves my headaches, it doesn't cause them.

ETA: With certain back adjustments--when one part gets adjusted, it sends another part out of whack--and then I get that part adjusted and all is fine. But not painful as you describe.

I would call them and ask. I have had a couple of car accidents and more than a few wrecks on unpredictable horses, so my neck is a mess. Yes I get a bad headache after the first adjustment ( I only go sporadically to the chiro) but it fades by the next day.

Thanks. I did call and she said I was such a mess and she did do a lot of necessary work so a headach is to be expected. It is a bit better today and I do go back Monday..she said the first one is the worst. Hopefully I won't go through that again.
Thanks, again

IA - the 1st appt. is always the worst. I swear by my chiropractor.... GL.

Have you ever seen a doctor who is a DO (doctor of osteopathic medicine)? They're "real" doctors like MD's but some also practices mannipulation. It's a lot better than going to a chiro and usually they're able to help you more. The want to treat you, and have you not come back where a chiro needs you to come back, usually on a regular basis.

I agree! I would see a real Dr before going to some chiropractor! I made the mistake of trying two different ones with two different styles and I always had terrible headaches after every visit- I would never make the mistake of going to one again. Chiros just keep telling you to come back 2 and 3 times a week to line their pockets!
