I quoted a response and then replied. The person then changed their original post to say "never mind" and now my response looks like I am talking to myself or have lost my mind since no one knows what I am talking about!

I don't think this new thing is a good thing.

Was your post edited by a mod? That would explain it.

Anyone can edit a quote, I do it all the time to correct spelling errors...

I think about doing that too, sometimes. But, I also do not want to highlight they had spelling errors. People are touchy enough about that.

Even though as I was typing the message I could see on my screen what the person had posted, perhaps before I hit the submit button that she changed up her post and so the "reference" that the system used to post was then different from what I had originally started with. It is the only thing that makes sense to me.
In all the years I have never seen this happen so I am really hoping it was a fluke.

PLEASE!!! Do not go giving the Mods this idea. It will really mess up the New Rule and these Nevermind posts when the Mods change the quote to something like this:

All a quote is, is a tag creating that box and formating that the quote is in.

You can put anything you want within bounds of the quote tag

and it displays it as the quote.

There is nothing magic about it. Press the quote button, the software will copy the text of quoted post, wrap it in quote tags, put the original poster's name in the beginning along with usually the name being linked to said person's user page.
