Is this just me being really cheap?

What if you were to book a package for one night with the meal plan (get your tickets for the whole trip, but again the room and meal plan for 1 night only) then just book a room only for the balance of the trip?

So (for 2) it would cost you $78.05 ($35 x 2 plus 1.115% tax) for the meal plan. And you could have an incredible dinner at Kona one night $90 to $100 tab, and the next day have your full counter service meal and snack to tide you over (especially since you'd be stuffed from all that food at Kona)

It would be about a $130 dollar value.

If you knew you were going to splurge one night and have a $100 dinner, why not do the meal plan for that night? The dinner would get cheaper and you'd have a "free" snack and counter svc. meal to boot.

I think - the tickets would work against you.

either it is all or nothing - you might get away by changing resorts....

the way I understand the tickets - if you get the meal plan you have to get the tickets - but room only does not include tickets...

however changing resorts and making different reservations - might work for you - just realize how much the tickets will cost you.

I don't think the tickets have to match the # of nights. We plan to buy 10 day MYW tickets (5 days for this trip and 5 days for next) We would purchase them with the 1 night package.

I'm to cheap to splurge on a meal like that, but I was just wondering what some other people thought. Especially someone who may be able to use the idea.

Premium tickets (those including a meal plan) must equal the # of nights stayed.... for example, you cannot get a 2 day premium ticket with a 5 night hotel stay. You would have to have a 6 day (or possibly 5 day) premium ticket. But like the previous poster stated, you may get away with doing this if you make two different reservations. Also, the dining plan includes one table service meal, one coutner service meal, and one snack per person, per day. So if you ate at Kona on say Sunday night, you would be wasting your counter service meal and snack on that day... I'm not sure that you can "carry them over" to another day. But I could be wrong. I will try to find out for you!...........Good luck.........P

I could be wrong too, but I think that would only be a savings if you were paying rack rate for the room with the package as well as the room only rate. For example, if you had to pay $149 rack for a room and bought the dining plan it would be 149 + 7% tax is $159.43. Add $78.05 for the dining package and that is $237.48. On the other hand if you got a discount code for $89 for the same room + a $100 dinner at Kona's and a counter service and snack the next day, you savings is pretty much mute. that would be approx 95.23 (room with tax) + $100 (splurge dinner at Kona) + 20 (two counter service) + 5 (two snacks) = 220.23. This is also assuming you would splurge on the meal at Kona.

This is of course with no tickets into the calculation, because I have no idea how they work with these packages. I thought they had to be the same number of nights, but I have an AP so the packages and dining plans will never be a good value for me since I've always been able to get a code for a room rate.

Ya'll are way better at this stuff than I am but if the OP books the one night through AAA, she will still get a discount off the room even with the package.

it made sense to me!

How much does the AAA discount save?

I've never joined, but may if it's worth it.

Thanks!

I have considered doing this as well. I thought of booking one night - room only plus dining for that night. This would be at a value during value season (77US/nt). With dining that would be the 77US plus + 90 US dining (2 adults, 2 kids). That day we could do a character dinner (Chef Mickeys). I assumed we could use the rest of the dining vouchers for the next day. Maybe somebody could let me know if you can do this??????

Then the rest of the holiday we could book room only (77US/nt) and if we really lucky get the remaining nights at the value resort/value season general code discount rate of 55US/nt.

Does this make any sense? I figured Chef Mickeys Dinner for 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) would cost at least 90 US and this way we would have the extra meal vouchers for the next day.

But by booking the dining with the room only would this now be considered a package? I have an ill parent so booking a package is not really an option for me since the cancellation policy is 45 days vs 5 nights room only.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Actually, you can book ONE Night hotel, 7 night tickets and ONE night Dining Plan. This new MYW plan has that flexibility, which is what makes it so great! You can also book 7 night hotel, ONE day tickets and 7 day dining plan. You

Your Dining Plan MUST match the Resort night stay, tickets can be whatever you want them to be!

Also, these aren't vouchers, they are on your resort card. They are good from the time you check in until closing the next day.

SO, yes you could do this. Say you are staying 7 nights, need 7 day tix, but just want 1 day Dining. So, you book 1 night, with 7 day tickets, and 1 day dining. You check in 3pm Sunday. You have until closing on Monday to use those meals on the plan! Make a seperate room only ressie for the extra 6 nights.

I not sure the OP was referring to the PREMIUM plan, but just the normal regular meal plan. If doing the two reservations, this really have potential of working since the tickets do not have to match the number of nights/days for the room, but the meal plan does. The ticket wouldn't cost anymore. But I agree about questioning if the counter service meals and snack carry over to the next day. It would be interesting to know.

I have asked (and saw this on Disney's Dining brochure)....all of your meals, snacks, and counters expire at midnight of the last (checkout) day on that package.
So, we are moving to a different resort with room only, but we can still use the previous resort's package to eat that whole first day at the new resort (until midnight, of course). Got it?

This might be cheaper if your room rate for that single night isn't much higher than the rate you would pay for the room with a code or AAA discount.

For instance, let's say that you're staying at an AllStar during value season. That room 's rack rate runs $86.63 for the night with taxes. But with a code, the room would be $61.88. That's a difference of $25.

The there's the difference in ticket costs between what Disney charges and what you would pay for them at a ticket broker. Disney's advance purchase price for two 7-day MYW hoppers (expiry) is $475. At Ticketmania, the cost is $468. It's even less thru the Mousesavers' Newsletter. Another $7.

Add the cost of a single night's MYW dining option for 2 adults ($35 ea plus 12.5% tax, they charge the room tax rate on the dining plan) and you get a total extra cost of about $111. That's what one day of MYW dining is actually costing you.

The actual out-of-pocket cost for the dining package increases if you purchase 10-day tickets or premium tickets. The season and type of resort you choose would also come into play. Last year, I stayed in a deluxe during value season and the room was $95 per night less with a code than the rack rate. During peak season, it could be as much as $150 per night. At those prices, it just wouldn't make sense to use the dining option for one night to get a good meal. I could pay for it right out of my pocket for the same amount or less.

So, while it's possible to do, you may want to crunch all the numbers to see how it affects the bottomline before you make those package ressies for one night.

It must just be you becauase when I do it, it seems like a lot of trouble for a few dollars at a time when I should be on vacation. :cool1:

I was told when booking my trip that tickets had to be for one more than the night you stay (I have five nights - therefore I have six days on my tickets) - granted, these are park tickets, but I thought everyone in the party had to have the exact same tickets for everything.

A little O/T, and beside the point :), but I don't think you'll get a $90-100 meal for two at Kona... maybe $50-60 tops, I think. Entrees in the $15-20 range, desserts and appetizers are about $6-7 each.

I love Kona, but it's not a fancy top dollar kind of spot.

Everyone in your party does have the have the same tickets, day length, options, etc. But you can get any length of tickets you want!!!!! They do NOT have to be one day more than your hotel nights stay. That is the old system.
