Is this Halloween Costume offensive?

Thanks for all the quick replies. I will go with the rest of the costume and just use a plain white shirt for the MNSSHP (or use a vest for all of my fake patches so the back of the shirt can't be seen). The other t-shirts will be funny in a more adult setting, but I won't take the chance of offending anyone at the MNSSHP. I appreciate all of your opinions.
I think you knew the answer before you posted the question and really either wanted confirmation or wanted back-up to convince your friend.

As a 45 year old MAN, I would not necessarily be offended per se, other than being offended that, had you worn it the night I had my family at MNSSHP, it would be offensive that you had the poor taste to be inconsiderate of the girl scouts by mocking them for your own fun and pleasure by providing nothing more than teasing titilation for the "grown men" that are there with their wives and families. I suspect the other "events" you will be attending will be private parties, or at least less public than MNSSHP. What you do at private parties is quiet different than what you do in public, such as MNSSHP.

I applaud you for being considerate enough to ask, and kind enough to take the responses you received without being offended by them. If only more people had the manners to be concerned about the feelings of others rather than being self centered enough to say, "to heck with everyone else, I'm going to do what I want to regardless of what others think because I think it's a hoot."

Descretion is the better part of valor and thank you in advance for using your descretion.

WOW, I'm getting ready to leave for my GS meeting and I'll be sure to share this with the other leader. I'd go the safe route with the plain shirt and leave the other one for a more adult atmosphere. The cookie sale doesn't start until January :rotfl2:

Are you actually girls or middle aged men. Because then that could be kind of scary.

We are actually women in our 30's - but it would be much more funny on men!

Just so it is clear (not to you Minnie's Mate - but to anyone reading), our costumes are not skimpy or sexy in any way. It is cargo shorts (almost knee length), and t-shirts that are more baggy than tight. So even though the saying on the t-shirt may be risque, nothing about the rest of the costume will be. Trust me, there is nothing on this body that would provide "teasing titilation" for anyone, and there is NO WIFE that would feel threatened by my presence :rotfl:

Also, I posted this because I kind of suspected that some people could be offended by the shirts, but my friends kept assuring me that they were funny and not offensive at all and saying that I was "overthinking" this. I figured by posting on the DIS I would find out for sure what I should do - and I could use the DIS to support my case (or to prove me wrong).

Edited to add: We are not really mocking the Girl Scouts, just pretending that we are the world's oldest (and largest) Junior Girl Scouts - my friend (who is 5'10") even made a patch that says - "Biggest growth spurt - 2005" - and no, the patch does not refer to her "cookies".

And that's why some people might find the shirt distasteful for a family event at Walt Disney World. You know what they 'really' mean and so will other people.

Again, it's not offensive it's just...well....distasteful for an event that's geared toward children (and toward the child in all of us, yada yada yada....not meant in any way to mean grownups shouldn't go on their own......). Our 10 and 13 year old would 'get' it.

There could certainly be far more distasteful costumes at the Party, but since you asked........

That's not so bad. This year I'm going as an overweight person running people over in my ECV, my wife is a smoker in the non-smoking section, and my FIL is an expired mug trying to get free soda. :stir:

I'm sure just about anything you wear, someone will be offended. Some people are out looking for things to offend them. Go, have fun..don't worry about it.

I KNOW!!!

There was a reference to pot in earlier editions of the Unoffical Guide to Disney and some people got SO offended by it.

OP, deciding to wear said described get-up might fall under the category: if you have to ask...

this will be our 1st MNSSHP, assume that if a costume is deemed "questionable/inappropriate" in management's opinion; the bearer will not be admitted or asked to change:confused3

Either way, I think you could arrange the patches/badges in hidden Mickey form.

My friend and I will be attending the MNSSHP, and I had questions whether or not our costumes would offend anyone. We will both be dressed as girl scouts (hat, sashes with fake patches, cargo shorts, etc), and the back of our shirts have a picture of a girl scout cookie and they say "Don't you love my cookies". This of course is referring to the fact that we are posing as Girl Scouts and Girl Scouts sell cookies. We meant the shirt as a joke, but then I started thinking that someone could possibly be offended by that. I really don't want anyone offended, so if most people feel we should not wear them to the MNSSHP, I won't.

What is your opinion, would you be offended by this shirt?

Considering all the stuff I've looked at for a costume, I'd say it's probably one of the least "offensive" that I've found. Every costume I've found in stores that isn't a wearable oven exposes an insane amount of cleavage and the skirt is barely below the butt.

I'm almost considering just getting a Halloween tee and wearing it with jeans. The costumes out there for women are friggin' ridiculous unless you're attending a costume party at a local bar.

It's funny. I found ONE costume that would be appropriate and it was a sort of cross between an arabic princess and a gypsy and then I wondered, "I better not. Someone might find this ethnically offensive." even though I don't think that was the intent, but I wasn't sure what the protocols of certain garments in Arabic countries are, so I decided against it. So, as someone said earlier, someones bound to get offended unless you just go as a guest and even then someone might find your clothes offensive. I heard some guy last week make a nasty remark about another woman's top - calling it "slutty" and , honestly, the top wasn't that bad. :confused3

Oh yeah. I'm also a former girl scout and brownie. :p

If you choose NOT to do it, (no comment either way) you could potentially tie it in with a Disney theme if you could find a way to link your costumes to the girl scouts in the Disney movie "The Pacifier". Corny maybe, but its a thought, and its DISNEY!
I'm going as a deviled egg myself. Wearing all white, big yellow yoke on my stomach, (with a little paprika sprinkled on for good taste) and devil horns. I'll say Hi if I see ya there!

Again, I think you are using descression and that is admirable. I am certain that your attributes, both physical and social, are very pleasant. You at least have the decency to seek the council of your peers in this matter. I would not find your shirt objectionable in an adult social setting, I just think this is not one of them.

I feel the message in itself would be titilating and those who would be offended might interpret your costume as mocking as I did when I read your description. That is just my individual personal opinion. Now I hope I am not the one who is offending anyone.

WDW is funny during Halloween. Last year, I was there for MNSHP and there was a group of 6 adult (gay) men, all dressed as TINKERBELL. I thought is was hysterical. There had hairy legs, chests, etc. Some were not fit and thin, either. They were having a great time, laughing, and I thought, good for them.

But I am sure someone was "offended".

Former Girl Scout, and former leader of a troop of Junior Girl Scouts here. I do NOT find your t-shirt offensive. I think it would be a hoot.

Sesame street makes these so I would say your cookie's would be fine....

i wouldn't find it offensive, but there's always one person out that might. as long as there's nothing vulgar about your costume, i say go for it!

Hey, I just thought of a great and easy costume for a man. You know Collin from "Whose Line is It Any Way" who does the Nabisco 100 calorie packs? All he wears is Khaki pants, a Polo style shirt, a Pink TuTu, Magic Wand and an empty box of Nabisco 100 calorie Snacks and your good to go. Very comfy and too cute. :lmao:
